This must be one of the funniest tv shows ever made! I just saw the new years eve episode and Blackadder is such delightful character.
I cant imagine that the same person that gave the world mr Beans simple humour also gave the world the brilliance of Blackadder.
I must buy the complete series.

Yeah, so thought I when I saw the original Black Adder series, the one that takes place during the Middle Ages. But then, when I saw the renaissance version, I thought it was just getting silly. Then, when I saw the first episode of the third part (takes place in the 18th century, or some such), I gave up on the series. It had become plain stupid, and that's why I skipped the New Year's special. Reading your post I suspect I've missed something great. :(
I really liked the Middle Ages part of the series, when it actually contained a continual plot... They should've kept the style unchanged in the later parts.

Funny... I've just seen it today. The special one, where he goes back in time in a time machine. (This is stand alone, I think.)

Pretty good, the part about making it was quite interesting.

As for the series, I always thought the Middle Ages series the most boring. *shrug*
I liked the parts set in the Shakespearian era (at least I think it was then) the best. Blackadder gets so delightfully evil & sarcastic there.

To each his own I guess...

Heh, seems like they're showing it all over the world. I saw it yesterday and the making of it, and hell it was funny. I too enjoyed the Shakespearen era.

I´ve got all blackadder-episodes on tape, including his hilarious version of scrooge (If you have never seen it and like blackadder, you definitely should)
And yes, the one in which he travels using the time machine is a stand alone, not included in the series.
I like the WW1 setting the most for it is far more sophisticated in it´s humour then the Middle ages or the 18th century episodes.

Hmmm... they air the show where I live, too... I thhink I may take a look...)

Blackadder Goes Forth is by far the funniest in my opinion. The WWI setting for anyone who didn't know.

Great cast, great scripts, great humor.

    BTW, Mr Bean SUCKS!

  9. After the first series, the writers changed.

I know this because I am a fox who is professor of cunning at cunning university, or something.

I never really saw the Blackadder series. Mostly because I don't think they really showed them in Holland. I have seen the special though (the one Tal mentioned) and it was hilarious.

And Viking: Mr. Bean doesn't suck. It is one of my favorite comedy series.

Rowan Atkinson is a brilliant man, for making such programms with which you laugh your lungs out. (figurally meant, if that would happen for real it would be rather discusting)

Personally the first has always been the favourite of mine, although I've never seen any of the vaarious specials, despite the second always seeming to get the plaudits (together with the conclusion of the fourth).

The second series and the WW1 series were the best. Some of the guest star characters in Blackadder II were the greatest. Tom Baker's legless pirate was great; "You have a woman's bottom, milady! I'll wager that delicate young peach hath ne'er been wedged betwixt two splintered planks of wood to save a sinking galleon!" Rick Mayall's swashbuckling cad type character ruled as well; "She's got a tongue like an electric eel and she likes the taste of a MAN'S tonsils!" :D
