I did this ages ago. Time for a new one! Same idea, name your top World 11.

    Mine:

    ------------- Buffon --------------

    Puyol -- Terry -- Cannavaro -- Cole

    ------------- Vieira --------------

    ----- Gerrard ------ Lampard ------

    -----Rooney ---------- Henry ------
    ---------- van Nistlerooy ---------

Strikers in a Chelsea; Duff, Robben, Drogba/Gudjohnson kind of situation. And Gerrard, Lampard and Vieira to control the middle...

    *drools*

And yours? And don't just fill it with Swedish and Italian players Caleb! And Allback is outlawed  .

I think that you should change the title of the thread to "Brand New Europe Eleven" because you have not included players from Brazil and Argentina in your team.

True, I nearly swapped Rooney for Dinho, but couldn't bring myself to do it, lol. I went for Rooneys bigger work rate, tenacity and explosive nature. I'm a young budding Mourinho ;) .
Other than that, I don't think there is anyone else good enough to shift any of the other players.

How about this little devil called Saviola? However I have to admit that you have shown signs of progress. You have included 3 players who aren't playing in Premier League. :p

Haha. I pick on quality ;) :thumb:

Saviola ahead of Ruuuud? Not on your nelly! :p
Somebody get this man a straight jacket :D .

You know, thinking about it, it might pay to swap Gerrard or Lampard for Xavi. The little wizard in the middle of the park for Spain and Barca.

Maybe Roy Makaay. But you need a big forward in that formation. No good having a little whipper snapper. Need a big lad who can hold the ball up.

I'd still have Tendulkar in my World XI.

Oh, wrong sport. At least picking a World Cricket XI is not just a hypothetical exercise, given that there will be a Rest of the World XI playing next year against the top ranked national team, which I think is a great idea and gives far more motivation for a team to make sure they are ranked #1.

Oh yeah, Tendulkar has to be in any World 11 cricket side. If we are doing that, then this would be mine (in batting order)...

    Tendulkar
    Gilchrist
    Dravid
    Ponting
    Lara
    Kallis
    Flintoff
    Warne
    Harmison
    Murali (in on merit!)
    McGrath

Then Harmy and Murali leading the bowling offence... ouch.

Is that a one day team? That's a good team (although Kallis is a not at his best, plus Warne has retired from one day cricket). Interesting that Sri Lanka and NZ are the #2 and #3 ranked teams at the moment but only 1 player from those countries can make it into a World XI.

After NZ's recent drawn series with Australia, if we can knock over Sri Lanka in Dec, then beat Australia (cough cough) in Jan, we'll actually move into #1 position. Then your World XI can easily become your Rest of the World XI without any changes.

Nice start for England the other day.....

Yes, drew up a ODI team.
Kallis is in because, imo, he is still the worlds best all rounder.

I think NZ will have a job enough on beating Sri Lanka, nevermind Australia (even though NZ vs Aus is always a good contest). Will Murali be playing? Will he actually be allowed to bowl the Doosra? (I still don't understand all the hullabaloo surrounding that...).

Nobody is really concerned about the games vs South Africa 'A'. They are nothing games. All eyes are towards ashes '05.

Well, we're not the world's #3 (almost #2) one day team for nothing. We came within 16 runs of winning the recent series in Australia (ended up drawing the series) and we won that tri-series in England a few months ago. Pity we couldn't beat a team of grandmas when it comes to test matches.

Hopefully by the team the Ashes comes around, the current Aussie team will have been pensioned off and you boys will have a chance.

    Guys, it's a bit Off-Topic

And I wouldn't use Allbäck. He is a lousy player, but for some reason, he jsut can't stop scoring.

    The bastard!

    Anyway, my team would be:

    ------------Blazek---------------
    --Šimic-Nesta-Cannavaro-Tudor--
    --Nedved----Pirlo----Karagounis--
    ------------Robben--------------
    ------Di Vaio---Schevchenko-----

Don't have time or lust to care about making the substitutes, but you can bet they will include Ibrahimovic.

If some would post in the top European players topic I could post and say that Sjevtjenko have been chosen European player of the year with Deco as second, Ronaldinho as third and Henry as fourth.

Caleb, can I ask why you have chosen Marco di Viao? There are the likes of, Henry, RVN, Eto'o, Owen, Ronaldo, Vieri etc. etc. etc. to pick from?
Also, Karagounis, Tudor and Simic are strange choices... not to mention Blazek in the net. I'm not saying you're wrong, or having a go. Just wondering. All the rest are top choices though.

And Harbourboy, NZ's ODI team is very good. I've no idea why, but they are good. But when it comes to one day, Australia are just immortal. Well, the Aussies are near enough unbeatable at test, one day or 20/20 to be honest.
I've had a think on that team by the way. I've drafted a new one...

    Adam 'Glittery wrists' Gilchrist
Sachin 'wham bam thank you mam' Tendulkar
    Brian 'Charles' Lara
    Nathan 'Fruitpastle' Astle
    Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff
Andy 'i'll hit you all for 6' Symonds
    Chris 'im a kiwi' Cairns
    Brett 'jumpin jack flash' Lee
    Muttiah 'i dont throw' Muralitharan
    Steve 'the durham express' Harmison
    Shane 'i love bondage' Bond

Niiice! You got one? We can do rugby union aswell if you like, lol.

I dropped Ponting for the big slapper Symonds, seeing as it's one day. Symonds is the kind of guy who can slap 50 runs of 35 balls. Freddy and Symonds in the middle order. Better get a truck full of balls!

    No Harmy? :o
GBH needs to be in their, leading the speed attack ;) .

I'd only have Harmison in my test team. His one day record just doesn't seem to be as good yet.

Because Marco DI Vaio is pretty much like Larsson in his type of play. I would've chosen Larsson, but as he is injured for six months forward, I took the next best.

Karagounis proved to be an excellent teamplayer in Euro 2004, and Tudor and Simic play in a eastern, and with eastern, I mean Russia-eastern, style of way in the defence. Fast, rough, and if you mess with them, they will kick the crap out of you.

    Literally.

Also, one reason I chose this is because a team with all the fancy boys can't work in real life, once again, I use Real Madrid as my example for that. The reason the players in RM was so f*cking good before they came to RM was because they had those workhorses behind them. A team with only fancy boys have no workhorses, and therefore, no real stability.

Thought of replacing Simic with Keane, but I skipped it.

    Puyol Samuel Nesta Cole

    Pires Viera Gerrard Ronaldinho

    Henry Ronaldo

I agree about the lack of work horses at madrid - especially noticable since Makelele went to Chelsea. But why have just one holding player when you can have two which can turn playmaker as well - hence the "engine room" in the middle of the park. Players that work hard but still have enough class to produce the goods when needed. Most of the attacking flair comes down the flanks though. Maybe Schev, Zidane, Rio Allback on the bench just in case
