Breast milk Icecream... hmm, not particularly appealing to me but then again this is a world where everything is for sale its not surprising.

The owner of the the 'Icecreamists' is marketing the icecream called 'baby gaga' as the "miracle of motherhood" and selling it for an incredible £14 a serving.
"Some people will hear about it and go, 'yuck' but actually it's pure, organic, free-range and totally natural"
so's dog $h!t but I havent seen restaurants selling "pure, natural, recycled food"

It has since been siezed for health checks:

    http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/food-...id-health-safety-complaints-article-gf08.html

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...t-milk-ice-cream-banned-from-London-shop.html

I don't believe breast milk icecream would encourage breastfeeding personally, new mothers are not considering the taste as important, but rather the health reasons for breast feeding a new born. Breast feeding is rammed down new mothers throats in this country today, the "breast is best" movement is actually quite intimidating while on the flip side hospitals being so understaffed cannot provide the help needed by new mums, prompting many to give up feeling that they are failures

If someone is prepared to breast feed, they will attempt it regardless of an icecream, if someone is unprepared to breast feed they will not attempt it regardless of an icecream - to think that an icecream will change their minds is rather humerous - also bearing in mind that natural breast milk has not been blended with "Madagascan vanilla pods and lemon zest".

    Whats your take?

I agree with your reasoning. With all the reasons breast-feeding is good, and considering all the reasons new mothers don't do it, I don't really think taste-concerns come into play. Ever. I mean, who cares what a baby tastes anyway? Have any of you ever tried baby food? :D

[IMG] The 'best is breast' movement is more forceful due to the previous movement on soy milk for babies was proven to be quite risky but a lot of women were still going for it. Sad but true.

I think if people realised 'how tasty breast milk is' there would be a new rise in certain fetishes :shake:

Bad thing is I can see the icecream being useful for some allergies

I agree completely. And yeah, obviously the taste doesn't really factor into it. For the first few months of the baby's life, they can only drink breast milk or formula, and I cannot imagine either one is particularly better tasting that the other. And if you can only consume one thing, it's not like they have a diverse pallet anyway.

Well, we were all babies once... so probably.

Well, it's no weirder than the idea of drinking milk made for another species. We humans are pretty singular in the animal kingdom for drinking milk after weaning in the first place.

There is a time for everything, and drinking mother's milk is for infants. Any other use is fricking disgusting and demonstrates serious mental health issues in the people who do it. I am utterly nauseated by the very thought.

Not that I have a strong opinion or anything!

ps: I gotta admit that 8people's comment about allergies is really good. But surely there must be other methods of dealing with lactose intolerance or other allergy problems.

That's a good point. The only thing mother nature ever intended to drink cow's milk was calves. I admit, I find the thought of drinking breast milk unsettling, but why don't I feel the same way about consuming cow's breast milk. (I don't drink much milk, but I do eat cheese, and I assume that pretty much all the cheese is made from cow's milk.)

As an aside, is the breast milk pasturized before use? How do we know we aren't going to get some wierd disease?

[IMG] Humans drink milk and eat cheese from cows, goats, sheep, yaks, buffalo, horse, reindeer and camel, in a couple of countries moose as well. Then there's yoghurts, creams and butters that can use blends.

Also as a small subset of mammals that can produce milk without inducing pregnancy humans are actually one of them (You're safe, T2, you don't *have* to knock up your wife :p) - cows aren't and iirc most hooved animals aren't in that subset which often upsets the ethical crowd in animal products.

"Breast Milk Icecream" sounds like bad-ass punk band to me.

I wonder what sizes they come in - "A" cups, "B" cups, "C" cups etc.?

Anyway, I think it's kinda gimicky. Hopefully they don't invest too much in this or they might go t!ts up.

If it is pasturized, it won't help with allergies. I seem to recall that pasturization is what breaks down milk proteins into lactose in milk. If you pasturize any kind of milk, as far as I know, you'll get lactose.

How does that demonstrate mental health issues? I can understand having an irrational gut reaction against it - but if you're going to start throwing around things like that you really need to back it up with some reasoning.

I don't think there's any 'real' problem with this (presuming proper health standards are being met). Sure, it's icky - but I'd say that's just our irrational ingrained cultural taboos being broken a bit. At the end of the day, nothing bad has actually happened. Quite possibly something good has happened - some people got to eat some apparently nice ice cream - why begrudge them that?

I agree - I get the gut reaction part. I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why consuming ice cream made from human breast milk is any more strange or disturbing that consuming ice cream made from a cow's breast milk.

[IMG] Because cow breasts are more appetising?

I've also got a nemo-esque scene in my head of "Boobs are friends, not food."

I just find the whole thing amusing though tbh
