British consumers spend more on Fair Trade products

    I thought this was something for the British public to be proud of :)

    Its nice to hear something positive coming from the news for a change.

    However there is a downside:

    But at least people are making the effort. All we need to do is get rid of Gap and other companies that cash in on the disadvantaged and needy.

    A fairer comparison would actually be as a percentage of the total amount spent (on groceries I guess) as I have a feeling that the British grocery market far outstips the Swiss one. Alternatively the amount spent per person would be just as useful.

    Still, nice to know it's improving. If only fairtrade would improve their coffee.

    Yeah the chocolate is great but the coffee has a long way to go.

    We need a bit of friendly competition to encourage more countries to start purchasing more 'fairtrade goods'.

    I have bought some beautiful furniture for my house and I (hopefully) don't have to worry about people being exploited.

    Fair Trade is a body that is committed to providing fair wages and good employment opportunities to economically disadvantaged artisans and farmers worldwide.

    Of course most people don't care as long as their coffee and choclate are cheap. Never mind the suffering an misery of the disadvantaged.

    My School are having a Fair Trade week, which means a stand selling only Fair Trade food, like cereal bars, choclate, orange juice etc...

    Also, my work sell alot of Fair Trade food, and produce their own Fair Trade stuff.
