For a General Studies essay, I have been told to find out what British music non-Brits had heard of, and thought of these boards. So I put it to you. What country are you from, and what British music have you heard of?

You looking for the names of groups, songs, genres, or what?

Being a teenager in the 80s, I knew a lot of British pop stars. Sting was a favorite, but I couldn't figure out why he sounded like the Police. I liked Phil Collins too, but some of his songs sounded just like the ones from Genesis. I thought Tom Petty was British, but it turns out he was just smoking pot.

Da States. I listen to the following, on a regular basis:

    The Beatles
    Oasis
    Faithless
    Sneaker Pimps
    The Cure
    Depeche Mode
    Dido
    Elton John
    Def Leppard
    Massive Attack
    Morcheeba
    Queen

I'm also familiar with and fond of:

    Prodigy
    The Clash
    Sneaker Pimps
    David Bowie
The Stones (though I think they're incredibly over-rated)
    Duran Duran
    George Michael

I could go on and on and on. The influence of British rock and pop on music is undeniable and awesome. Music today would be nothing without the Brits. Well - it would at least suck more. :D

    I'm from Sacramento, California.

The only British bands I have heard of are:

    • The Beatles - of course
    • Pink Floyd - give me the f*cking pudding!
    • Genesis
... and that's about it, but I don't listen to music that often.

BTW, what is the deal with Brum the car? That thing's creepy!

    True. Brit rock was great.

But I may never forgive you guys for the Spice Girls.
