You know, you spend all that time exploring Athkatla and all the areas in the wilderness and learn you're heading to Spellhold where Jon Irenicus is. You're gripping your weapon, grinding your teeth as you watch the waves crash before you, watching the island on the horizon become closer and closer.

You get off the ship, you're ambushed in the night and you can hear faint music coming from the buildings above.

A pirate port with not many pirates or villans. I was so disapointed.

A perfect place to add more quests and create a different local of people and attitude and they don't milk it for what it's worth.

I would have to agree. This area could have lent itself to so much more adventuring, It was almost a waste.

[IMG] Yeah, nice scenery - kinda like a greek island, shame about the quests. It wouldn't be a Bioware game without a battle in a brothel would it? Remember Flallout 2?

[IMG] The battle was too small. I was looking forward to an orgy of righteous slaughter to cleanse the vile place of its Baatorian scent. As it turns out it had a pitiful number of guards for a brothel on a pirate island, and the "dangerous" pet mage didn't live up to his name either.

Growing impatient at the number of guards I engaged them before the covert measures I commisioned could occur and slew the captain in single combat, without any aid whatsoever!

Galvaena's mage was dealt with within moments, and as for Galvaena herself, Yoshimo poked her from behind with his Pixie Prick and she immediately fell to the ground in a swoon with her legs spread lewdly. Yoshimo continued poking at her with his Prick (too enthusiastically I might add), but I pulled him away to let Aerie administer the fatal blow on behalf of all womankind.

And I think that was all that I did in Brynnlaw. I thought one quest would be enough, certainly because I was there only to rescue Imoen and risked detection at any moment, but come on, it could've been tougher after all I've been through.

Hmmm....but nothing stopped me from attacking Desharik though.....

I think it should have been developed as a port on its own and not intertwined with Spellhold at all.

Pirates don't give a rats ass about places like that, they've made a pirate port to smuggle, do illegal activities and trading, which surprised me that there were better selection of items in Trademeet than there was in Brynnlaw.

A slaver freed from The Copper Coronet could have told you about someone they knew who was smuggled out of Athkatla by some pirates and perhaps you could have come across that person in Brynnlaw, exposing the slave trading a little deeper in the gut so to speak.

Cowled Wizards would definatly make the place an outpost of information and dealing and could have ambushed the party while in Brynnlaw once they learned they had arrived.

Did I not see a picture somewhere of Brynnlaw and a battle taking place near the docks? Was this on the box by chance? Where was that excitement in such a shady pirate port?

The pirates were "typical" too. 'are there matey I have a poem for you! No tough ass captains in the taverns making fun of the party dressed as they were, no tough pirates with poisoned blades that kill on contact protecting that captain.

An empty shell on the shore is what I say!

Well, there might actually be more issues to consider. One is that while the image of a pirate port might bring up typical views of naval strongholds and bustling hives of corruption, the truth may actually be more.....anti-climactic. An example would be piracy in South East Asia. Pirates there do not have any strongholds, and they trade in regular ports and places.

The second issue is that of the main story. While some of us are taking our time and enjoying the scenery, the fact that there are some time-based missions (although the time factor is mostly only alluded to and not enforced) suggests that the rescue of Imoen or the search for Irenicus be the main priority. Add to the fact that there is a wide range of experience levels and abilities possible to gather even before reaching Brynnlaw (and differing according to individual players), there can be the issue of deciding what difficulty level to set the place at.

Also, Brynnlaw figures very little in the overall game, even Trademeet is not visited often, so why should it be developed further?

Could I say that, when you enter Brynnlaw, most of pirates are outside of the City, on ships looking to sink other ships ;).

Well, I agree Syl, it would be great if more quests have to be done in the Pirate's Lair. Maybe, Bioware keeps some place, like that one, for a add-on...

Pirate dont have strongholds? A good historical comparison would be Port Royal a city that was built by and for pirates.

Brynnlaw should of had a lot more taverns and traders than it did, catering to the pirate crews. Also I would of thought that a slave market would have been a reasonable addition to the ares. Plot wise Bioware could have linked togther the Slaver quest more, perhaps an encounter triggered by killing off the slavers in the slum district or the Slaver lords in the Temple district when you arrive at Brynnlaw.

The annoying thing about Brynnlaw is being attacked by pirates. They're an absolute waste of time to fight and they only attack one at a time. Just like wild dogs. I,ve never seen more than one of them in the same area in the whole game.
