If a post I've seen is correct, the Bush Administration has closed EPA libraries, de-linked the files, destroyed the discs, and even sold the furniture. (Seesdifferent: the blog)

According to the report, on Dec. 1 the EPA delinked thousands of documents from the website for the Office of Prevention, Pollution and Toxic Substances (OPPTS) in EPA's Washington, DC headquarters. It was further reported that library staffers were ordered to throw its collections into recycling bins. The OPPTS library is the EPA's only specialized repository of information on the health effects and properties of toxic chemicals and pesticides.

Looks like we'll have to start over. A lucky break if you're a polluter.

A related story says that the NASA library in Greenbelt MD, a major research center, has also been scheduled for closure. I'd like to think it's because one of the researchers there shared the 2006 Nobel Prize for his work on the Big Bang theory of Creation, which is not the same as Creationism, as I'm sure you all know. But perhaps there is a relationship. Something about funding.

I'm remembering a Sci-Fi short story I read many years ago. It was called "The Marching Morons", a story in which the stupid have taken over the Earth. I don't remember who wrote it; but it seems to me we're all living it.

I'm looking at the OPPTS page right now; sure looks as though stuff's still there. Doesn't mean there haven't been any removals, but the story certainly seems to be in error.
