i have been playing the BG series for about one or two years now, and have gotten interested in D&D PC games again but i am bored of the BG series.

should i purchase Icewind Dale II as a worthy replacement? with any answers please give reasons. thanks a million.

I reckon it's worth it. It is different from the BG series in that you make the whole party of 6 from the start. It is also fundamentally different in that it uses 3E rules for DND. Also the story has just as many tricks and plot twists as BG2 so it is still fun. Most noticeable difference is that your party is rather quiet since there is no interaction of personalities. The game is great but does not draw me back as much as BG2 does. If BG2 was in 3E rules I probably would play nothing else. But IWD2 is still a great game. Go and get it now that it's cheaper than when I got it on the first day of release here.

Hmm, I'd buy it. I mean, I haven't played BG2 as so many others here have, and I bought IWD 2 just to complete my collection, but that's all good. Go buy it, get a patch for all the nasty nasty bugs, and enjoy. Granted, I don't really understand those 3D rules, but bah! I know what feats I should and shouldn't get. It's easy.

You should be able to pick up a IWD/HoW pack for very little if you haven't already played it.

I'd certainly recommend that as a start. If you like it, then shell out the extra for IWD2.

Having said that, buy it all, now. You're not likely to regret it.

Viking, i certainly prefer 3E rules (having played 3E d&d and liking it over the BG/BG2 rules) and so if i am going to buy an IWD it will probably be IWD2.

thanks for all your input, and i am going to join the crowd and buy IWD2!!!

Good decision... I haven't played BG2 but I wish I had. Still IWD2 is a real good game to start CRPG. Good story and excellent combat... :D

    Anakha,

If you don't mind willing to revert to 2nd Edition D&D rules, my advice is to still go out and get BG2 and the Throne of Bhaal expansion pack.

If I was a betting man, I'd say you'll enjoy that one as well.

In fact, I'm going to play it yet again once I'm done with IDW2 patch2.01.

I really tried but I can not find any. I looked every game shop I found but still I never saw a BG series game.
Only games like FIFA or NBA live is exported here and not many of my people like D&D, I guess. :(
Majority like such games. Being minority is hard.
So, as you can understand I couldn't find any place to buy them.
And don't tell me about internet because shipping is a big problem if I buy them that way.

@Anakha: I know the feeling, I couldn't find Throne of Bhaal anywhere, and it suck to have played through SoA and not to know the end of the story.

Anyway, I'd say you should give IWD2 a try, it's a great game, the 3e rules make it better than BG2 in many ways. I strongly recommend it.

    Frostmage,
I think there is a little misunderstanding about the game I am looking for. It is not IWD2 that I could not find. Altough, I could not find it original, it is easy to find as a copy game, being a new game. I am really sorry to buy copy games but I have no other choice.
The game I can not find is BG. I would buy BG1, BG2 and ToB if I found them.
Still, it feels good, not to be the only one suffering need of good games. Thank you for empathy...

I tried those sites just to get nothing. There are two problems:
First problem is shipment. Those sites do not offer shipment here.(Bursa,Turkey) DHL, TNT, UPS and such companies have offices in Bursa but they are so expensive. I must pay about twice the price of game.
The second problem is payment. I do not use credit cards on internet and other payment methods are also allowed for US, Canada or (maybe) EU but not Turkey.
I think I will buy them, next time I take a trip to US or Europa. But I don't know when it will be.

Well, in that case, you're screwed, as the ancient saying goes. :shake:

I'm going to have to go against the crowd here. I picked up IWD2 for $40 on a Labor Day sale. I've played it for maybe six hours total. Not worth it, IMO. Eventually I may come back and play it, but this one was not as good as PST or BG-series.

It is a good D&D hack 'n' slash game, nothing more. If that sounds good to you, by all means it is worth it. If you were expecting a replacement for Baldur's Gate, no.

I'd say that you're basically screwed if the shipping on the game would end up costing you that much. Do game companies usually ship to Turkey? If they do, I see no reason why you couldn't get the BG series. Otherwise, how close is Bursa to the European border?

Bursa is not that far to Eyropean Border, just 5 hours or so.
Whatever, I think I will get them next time I take a trip to Europe.
Thanks all, for your concern... Don't worry anymore, I will get BG series one way or another. :)
