    Oh, he is worth usd 50000 not for his look but for his American citizenship. Instead of waiting for lottery, little girl of little village China will sell everything she and her family has, land, possession, body even, or even borrow though illegal methods to get this ticket to America and marry any Amerian citizen to get a residence status. In fact, 50000 is actually, roughly the "market" price. .

    I very much doubt any poor Chinese girl could gather $50k, even through stealing. And I'm also sure there are plenty of Americans willing to marry for less than $50k...

    I remember a brit girl doing the same about a year or two ago. Someone paid something like £36k, that is around $60 thousand USD, and she was a real plain jane.

    oh yeah, a poor country chinese girl can gather usd 50000, not without difficulty though. Triad for Chinese are like mafia for Sicilians, you can never get away with it. Your average country chinese girl, through connections and connections, can loan 50k and more to get a ticket to u.s. and leave her family behind willing to pay the debt. Poverty is the most evil of all evil, never underestimate its power.

    By the way, Chinese are poor not because they don't have money to spend, but they have no place to spend money. To my amazement, i once saw a chinese student in my malaysian college carrying a bag of u.s. dollar notes. i only saw such bag of chash through movie. Chinese cannot transfer their money out of China legally, so this student, from a middle class family, had to physically carry the money note out of China. Since then i have a different view on what is actually poverty in China means.

    I'm pretty certain that they do not think themselves as poor, since it's their way of life and they really do not have anything to compare to. Have to see it myself one day, but I do not expect the local girls jumping at me at first sight. :grin:

    Very true, and there are a LOT of rich chinese here in the Philippines. Mostly, the people driving around in jaguars, maseratis or porsches over here are chinese.
