I just bought a bottle of C2 - the new Coke with 1/2 the calories and 1/2 the sugar of original coke. I assumed it was made with Splenda, as that's a direct sugar derivative with 1/2 the calories of regular sugar. However, I find that this is incorrect. One of the ingredients is phenylalanine. I know I've seen this ingredient on an artificial sweetener before, though I forget which one. Is it Sweet 'N Low? Nutrasweet? Sacchrine? Just curious more than anything.

As far as the taste, it doesn't have that hard diet cola after-taste, but it is still there, just not as powerful. Your thoughts?

Phenylananine is sort of NutraSweet, only NutraSweet is aspartame which is something like half phenylalanine and half aspartic acid.

C2 does have aspertane in it.

(It tastes disgusting anyways, so I'm keeping my distance.)

Phenylalanine is a component of the artificial sweetener aspartame . Aspartame is the key ingredient of Nutrasweet, Equal, and Candarel and is 180 times sweeter than sugar. The other main artifical sweetener is saccharin which is the main ingredient of Sweet 'n' Low and is 300 times sweeter than sugar.

Coca-cola C2 contains both aspartame and another sweetener sucralose which is supposedly 600 times sweeter than sugar.

This could be dangerous if they dont clearly state that it contains high amounts of Phenylalanine, as suffers of PKU (pheynlketonurea) coukld accidently drinks this, and it could be fatal, as they lack the enzyme for converting phenylalanine into tyrosine, isntead its made into the toxic substance phenylpyruvic acid.
