California is experiencing a lot of forest fires for those of you who live in another country or are not aware of this in the US. We have idiots starting fires everywhere.
One hunter, prob named Bubba, starts a wildfire by shooting his gun cuz he got lost and thought he could signal, another report said he started a signal fire. We have another fire started by some teenagers throwing matches out of a van.
    Jack-o-latern started another one.
Schools are closed throughout San Diego, people are told to stay home. Air traffic is delayed all over the counrty because a monitoring station had to be evacuated.
I work up in an area in southern San Bernadino County, Oak Glen area (for those of you in California). Its in the mountains and most of the trees are dead from the bark beetle, I'm staying home tomorrow because of the high winds, too dangerous for the drive, and just how quickly the whole area could go up and there's not many ways out.
Its bad here. Anyone who lives here in CA affected or close to any of the fires?

I'm affected only by all the ash falling from the sky and the smell of smoke on the air...

I was at my brother-in-law's wedding yesteday and ash rained gently down from the sky. The Moorpark fire was about 10 miles away, but the Santa Ana winds helped things move along. It sometimes looks like a nulcear winter, with the sun hidden behind a cloud of smoke in the mid-morning.

@dmc, I know that there was probably more than one wedding in Southern California yesterday, but I was watching one of the fires near Temecula and some guy was talking about being at some guys wedding and ash was falling and everything. He mentioned the Moorpark fire too. Wierd.
It was creepy this morning. I know from watching the news that there still are strong winds, but everything by me is relatively calm.

As far as I know people who had tickets for Monday Night's Football game are out of luck. They have announced here locally that admission to Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe will be FREE tonight if you make some sort of donation for the relief of the Sou. Cal. fire victims.

I was going to start a similar-themed thread but you beat me. Anyway, damn there's a lot of stuff going on over in America lately. Actually there's a lot of **** hitting the fan all over the Northern Hemisphere lately, I mean all we've really had lately that I can recall is one bad-mutha hail storm which caused about $8 Million in damage up north a bit, a couple of multiple murders by non-resident fathers and the 'group' Fannypack hitting the charts with that crap 'song' Camel Toe. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, you've got out-of-control fires, blackouts, Tropical Cyclones, Saddam, George W ;) , earthquakes, and god alone knows what else (or maybe some of you guys can fill me in in case God doesn't get the chance). Now I know why Australia gets called The Lucky Country.

Hey, the last time we got a cyclone of much note hit here it levelled a whole city back in about '76! At least, that was the last major one that I know of, I did have my head stuck where the sun don't shine for a few years there.

Yeah. I guess all you have to do is jump off the pier and you're in the clear. Beach front property has it's advantages.

You know, you could burn down El Centro, Visalia, Hanford, and the east side of Fresno, and the entire world would be a cleaner place. Other than that, I've always considered California to be an irrigated desert. I've NO idea what in the heck is burning. It's pretty darn sparse when you get outide San Bernadino's and Tichmingo's city limits. Wind mills and sand don't really burn all that well.

Either way, that sucks. Sure does seem like we've been having a bunch of drunk bus drivers and arsonists roaming the neighborhood, lately...

The hunter fired off a flare gun that started the blaze.

We've heard about it here, but weren't the fires a few years back a lot worse? I mean then USA asked for international aid!

There are fires in California every year. These are pretty big though. Over half a million acres last I heard, and over 1000 homes.

Are they bigger than the Oregon fires last year? I was over there then and half the state was more or less closed off due to the fires.
