If she does, she doesn't have many of them. I couldn't stand her.

You guys must have a corrupt version of the game--you better reinstall, quick! <grin>

The Mazzy I got certainly beats those whine-apples, Aerie & Nalia. (I could stand them only for as long as it took to find a replacement for their skills I needed).

I equiped Mazzy with some decent armor, a belt of strength, and that rapid fire bow (3 shots per rd) and she mows down half the bad guys before the front line gets in their first hit. She regulary gets 10 to 14 damage per shot. And if the enemy is particulary tough, swich to the +3 bow (shoots its own phantom ammo, but a little slower) to deal out heavy duty mahem. Plus, her 3* in short swords gives decent melee support, if needed.

'Course, if you got lots of fighters already, you may not need another, but if you need good support, look no further!! She's archer in all but name. :) :)

    :D

Myself, Korgan, Valygar, Minsc and Jaheira are all the fighters I need, and if I may add without sounding too brave, melee fighters because range weapons ARE FOR COWARDS LIKE MAZZY! :) :) :)

Cowards? Bah! My Archer was always in the thick of battle since I had him up front, but a bit of softening up with Heartseeker whenever possible was extremely welcome :)

BTW did anyone notice that the first Heartseeker was tought to get (Adamantine Golem) but you could buy multiple copies from Ribald's secret stash? That pretty much cheapened the weapon as far as I was concerned... :)

Ah, yes, now I understand...the lower classes are frequently over burdened with brawn and somewhat lacking in the, shall we say "cerebral", finer arts of combat/warfare ..<chuckle> ;)

That's quite all right, one must make allowances for all views and techniques, even those that are obviously inferior.
    :)

< all in good fun, nothing personal, of course!! > :D

[IMG] That 'ranged weapons are for cowards' comment reminds me of the french at Crecy and Agincourt, who complained:
"Sacre blue, zese eenglish cowards no fight fair, instead of comming out and fighting our heavily armoured mounted knights (who outnumber them 10:1) face to face, they lurk by the woods and turn us into hedgehogs with their arrows!"
With apologies to any gallic dungoneers.
I don't see why softening enemies up with Magic Missile etc is noble, but arrows aren't. Why did they put all those great bows and arrows in the game, if not to use?

For the cowards to use :)

Unless the enemy is also using bows I think it's in poor taste to use them for the AI is just too stupid to either

    A) get out of range

    B) concentrate all magical firepower on those archers in your party playing hide and seek

    C) advance directly to those archers to stop them from shooting and cut them down

An entire party full of ranged weapons makes me sick to my stomach. It's just personal taste really. If you like using them, do so but I don't see any point in praising any party who kills powerful creatures with arrows without taking any serious risk. To me, there is no fun in sitting back and launching 8-10 arrows in one round by the entire party, dropping the beast before it even has a chance to strike.

Even worse are the players who have Paladins in their party using range weapons. No honor in that and if I was part of the BG2 production team, any Paladin using such a ranged weapon would become fallen instantly.

    That's just me though.

[IMG] Come on Syl, I wasn't so sure in the cloudkill debate, but this seems pretty far off.
If you accept the safety of a guy with AC:-10 or lower, you might as well accept the safety of distance. Monster-ai doesn't cope very well with either. Is running around in a portable bunker really brave??
Lowering your natural intelligence to the level of the games ai isn't brave, just plain stupid :D

Certainly you don't agree to that Cloudkill tactic of using the Fog of War as a strategy method do you? I hope not because that's one thing no one can make sound like it's a good thing. It's lame, cheap and nothing but an exploit. No bravery there, especially when used against Dragons!

As for bows, we'll to each their own on this one really. I don't use them and was only saying "cowards" in jest in the post above (thus the :) all over.

Personally, I'd rather have a character with any AC up front doing damage fist to fist than a character who's shooting arrows at the enemy and looking at the sky while doing so.

It's nothing personal of course towards you as a player, but more or less towards your party members who use them. For myself, arrows and bolts are inventory waste and although I do have Minsc carry around a bow, it's only when I encounter others using the same against my party. Otherwise, Minsc is up front with "Lilacor" dealing damage like a true, brave warrior side to side with Grub weilding the Flail of Ages and Keldorn next to him holding Daystar and Valygar swinging around two katana's while Jaheira blasts away with her magical scimitar (she's deadly with -9 AC!) and following behind Aerie (-4 AC) and her ever so powerful Club!

I hope my smily cept you from taking the 'stupid' personally :)
I havn't tested cloudkill et al. yet as I consider area spells too limited in their usefulness for a sorcerer to learn. I'll comment on this topic once I played a real mage (and probalby start yet another cloudkill flamewar;).

I prefer using characters/npcs with less than perfect stats and try to avoid bloodshed (with my party at least). I also try to do normal quests without any intermediate saves.
In short the tactics may be a tiny bit on the somewhat less than absolut brave side, but for a weaker party, just to grit their theeth get those wobbly knees to carry them to the dragon is an act of most outstanding bravory not to be brushed away lightly :D
These characters aren't exactly godlike (well maybe the like of Loki (my favourite of the ancient gods)) but being mere humans/elves/halflings/... deserve better than being called cowards!!!

May magic ever prevail over mere brawns!

Not that cloudkill is such a blazing good spell really...
Sure, it's very usefull for killing a whole buch of weak characters quickly (like a bunch of mages or low level monsters), but it's pretty useless when cast on high-level humans and even tougher monsters. In that case it's just 1-10 damage each round and unless you can hold them in the cloud (or get your characters to fight in the cloud, bad idea), nothing much since if you don't stay in the cloud, neither will they. Unless they drop unconscious that is.
A rare occurance in BG2. (At least in the few cases when I used it).

But then the biggest thing that bothers me about it is the color. Orange?? WTF?!?! :p
It was always green, so why this sudden change I wonder. Nowadays the "billowing clouds of foul vapors" look like some ettin's farts, excuse my French.
