    Heya to u all

I started the game yesterday(and have pretty much been doing it ever since;), and thought to my self, "myself i thought", think im just gonna make 4 chars cause ill prob gonna meet somebody ingame that wants to join me, or needs to join me so no point in going thru the whole sjabang with 6 chars.

Now ive been playing some time now, and atm working my way thru the horde fortress BUT. I still havnt meet anybody that wants to join my party or anything close. Do I smell bad or talk funny i dont know, but nobody seems to want to join.

Now can it really be that there is nobody that will _ever_ join my party or have i done something wrong ? And should i have made 6 chars to begin with? Because 4 chars is gettin a little tricky to survive with but dont wanna start over if somebody is just arround the corner.....

If nobody will ever join, has some elite kid made a prog that makes it possible to add chars or am i screwed forever, and need to start over ?

thnx in advance for response, Godspeed!

    /MortErik

There are no joinable NPCs in the game, you have to make the whole party yourself. However, you are not horribly stuck. All you have to do is go to the character modification screen (push "c"), select the option to modify characters, then click on each of the empty boxes and make the characters as you normally would. The only downside is the fact that the characters you make will be level 1 with no experience, and armed only with quarterstaffs. Though at this point, extra equipment shouldn't be too hard to come by, and as long as you keep them well hidden, they should gain levels fast enough.

Keyboard shortcuts: always your friend, unless its the windows key in a game that does not support ALT+TAB very well.

If you've never played before then 6 chars (or one of the pre-made parties) is ALWAYS a good idea

I have to disagree, I never finished either IWD with 6 char party. It's more timeconsuming, harder and way more annoying with more micromanagement.

Yeah, six characters is much harder than four characters.

    I prefer 1 ^^

Though I'm now dueling (me and my mate co-op game) with a barb and sorc. At monastery now, nothing hard yet to face, toughest might have been the barbarian puzzle, my friend got surrounded by the horde of barbarians (even though I made him invisible, they still attacked him), and I nearly killed him while blasting the ranks down to make some way for him :p

it depends. If you've never played any kind of rpg then i reckon that 6 is easier because you can get a better look at party combo's and different classes. i akways start every rpg with 6 (or max allowed) and do a 'dummy run'

My first run was with 6 chars. It got so boring I cleared the Underdark simply by equipping everyone with melee weapons and scripts.
Thank god for that no_switch_to_best_weapon script mod.

My last run I started out with one and then kept adding membes according to a story I had cooked up. Got upto 4 members and decided that was enough.

I actually like micro-management (I know, weirdo), and so played through both games with a full party of six.

Hehe, I did that in the First Icewind Dale...where is my party? I was too used to Baldur's Gate. I like making my whole party. :)

Although I like micromanaging, I don't when it's this game. I agree 4 would be best.

I love micromanaging and I do it in this game. I do full 6. (I'm not really confident in my abilities to handle anything less.)

I like six characters too. It just seems, well, right.

It is right...more bodies for monsters to pummel on, more damage done in a round, and more of a chance of survival.

Trying a four person party for the first time at the moment. Its great, but they stopped getting experience for low-mid level kills at around the Ice Temple (earlier than I thought they would). I'm not keen on the idea of level squatting, so I added a halfling fighter/rogue in and everything seems to be going along nicely again. In the future, however, I might go with more ECL races to bring the average level down a bit.

Can I ask the experienced 4-man partiers what level their characters usually reach by the end of normal difficulty?

Six characters is too annoying. I never have more than 4 at any time.

Exactly the point I always try and make. The ECL penalty is actually a blessing. Drows and Deep Gnomes rule.

Hard to say, as I seldom finish with the same 4 persons I started with. But usually at least one of the characters gets to about level 24.

err... I level squat. So pretty much everone, including the DG gets to L19 and above in a 4 member party.

The best way imo is to start solo. Then add new members as the need arises or when you start to loose XP. A single high level melee charecter can easily take care of others till they level up a bit.

In my last party my DG reached lvl19 at the beginning of the dragons eye-timeloop. It was a 4-p party at the beginning. Added one more in kuldahar and have squatted quite a bit (still having an average-lvl of 9.8. Their real av. is 17.4 including the 5-th char.) Maybe a bit too much lvl-squatting as my primary arcane-casters can't cast more than lvl 4-5 spells. But i'm still having a lot of fun with fireballs...
