[IMG] I tend to start a game, play for some time and then skip it to start over with a new PC. I rarely complete a game, only been through ToB once, and SoA thrice. I actually like rolling stats for a new char, but I want to go at least through SoA nearly everytime. My intentions are good, but gets lost somewhere between "'could be fun with a R/C" and D'arnise Keep. There must be others with the same experience, what do you do?

If you really want it, you force yourself. I don't usually enjoy the latter parts of most games because it turns into a "who can hit the hardest" contest instead of opening tactics being a big part of who wins and how fast. But I always make sure to finish what I start unless I find that the concept I was playing with is flawed. :hmm: That might be your problem right there; if all you're thinking of is "maybe it might be fun with this one PC", you're not prepared for the rest of your party. The only times I ever play for the experience of a particular class, I go solo for the game.

Of course, you can always combine a character concept with a party concept, and that's when you'll get the best games. For example, the last party concept I thought up, (which I'll be posting a question about later) in fact started out with a F/M PC, but I realized that it might be a good chance to try out an F/M/C.

I used to constantly restart as well, but I've done that enough so that now I tend to see it right through. When I get a chance to play, that is.

Nope. Can't help you there. I've been on a quest to get a party through the game without anyone dying, and I'm not good enough - so I restart a lot ;)

holy crap. that's what I do too is start/restart. Even when I don't use SH I still get some item that makes the game 'easy' then I get frustrated cuz my skillz suck and a dragon thumps me so I'll restart.

I'm a member of the restart club too!

Once you become super-human most rpgs become boring.

For Something fresh what you might do is play a Couple games with Very different Characters. Pick out different Parties and then do the Quests in entirely different orders. You might split them up into say Athlatka quests and those quests outside of them and perhaps base your NPC's around that a bit. Then when one is frustrating or getting to you a little bit. Switch over to the other and try to keep them from doing the same thing at the same time so that you have a bit more variety.

I for example tend to have a Fighter Type Main PC Game and a Spellcaster Type Main PC Game going at once myself.

I tend to restart a bunch too. Funny thing is I tend to restart and play the exact same character as before... Haha... I've tried going with interesting parties, and then I get bored and annoyed by Yan, or the weakness of the party.

Instead I created my own party and included some NPC's, but a lot PC chars, (Multiplayer game with just me).

I remind myself how much untill my next kickass skill/spell/item. "Ohhh, it's going to be so awesome when I get it".
Of course, this doesn't always work.

Hey, I'm just like you! Restart after restart! Usually I just change the sex, stats, apperance or my character, but hardly ever the class! I did find it a problem, but then I looked at the bigger picture ... and now i don't have a problem! I just think of how good it's all going to turn out, and then I stick to it!

Plus, you can't get bored with a F/M ... plenty of spells and plenty of killing! :D

I started six different parties before I finally finished SoA and ToB (just this week as a matter of fact). I get going with a new group and then decide to start with a new more interesting character. I also often have more than one game going at a time too (i.e. BG1 and BG2) I am currnetly just out of Durlag's Tower with my first try at an evil party, and in chapter 1 in IWD.

I finally just forced myself to finish.

    I'm a chronic restarter too.

My suggestion is to pick which NPCs you want, and build a cool character that fits into that party.

Hehe, so many chronic restarters here. Being one of them, I do know the reason why it's hard to finish the game, eventhough I'm still figuring out a solution: it all starts with the search for a character you'll like enough to "finish" the game with. At least, that's the attempt. Some work great and get along quite a bit in the game (in BG2, I've at least gotten outside Saradush), others you abandon even before getting out of your cage. Now, the longer it takes to find "your" character, the harder it becomes to end the game. This is due to the fact you know the beginning so by heart that it can no longer enchant you and motivate you to "see what's next", because you already now. The part you haven't seen yet is so far beyond the part you do know, that it can't motivate you enough to get to that part. And so you remain frustrated, restarting and restarting and....

Well, at least that's how it's for me :)

Play a Fighter/Mage/Cleric (or Thief). They have everything, you get to solo...and you don't miss out on anything.

Just get proficiency points into two handed weapons and Quarterstaffs, get staff of the ram +6, Staff of the Magi +5, and you're set.

    Enjoy.

@ Meatdog: This I've been thinking myself - well atleast deepest in my mind. I know exactly what to do and where to go, and beyond that is just far away :D

@ Klorox: Sounds like a good idea. I'll try that next time I start a new game.

By the way, it's going well with my new F/M, I have just arrived at the improved druid grove, wich is much more fun probably because there is new monsters and happenings. This shadow druid group were quite tough.
