    I don't believe this has been brought up on SP before... but perhaps if it sparks interest the Alley might be a place to pop it.

    Personally? I think this is fantastic. Perhaps not for the most obvious reasons.

    For one, I have seen several families torn apart by misunderstanding, tragedy within the family and being financially, mentally and physically unprepared for a child with disabilities.

    There are screening tests for certain conditions, such as Downs, which quite frankly there is little reason to not test for. The vital time needed to prepare for any unexpected health worries is valuable for both the health profession and the family.

    It is difficult to build a rapport after birth of a child with health professionals and be taken seriously and be tested accurately without facing a lot of hours of tears, humiliation and pain.

    $500 for a test that can ensure the most important months of development are treated with the care and consideration warranted for a child who needs extra care is nothing in my opinion.
