I just installed the game along with the 2.01 patch, but whenever I try starting a new single player game it gives me the message "cannot connect to the game session". I read the FAQ on this site that said to open icewind2.ini and set Last Protocol Used=1 but it didn't help. Does anyone know how to fix this? My computer specs (if they matter):
    3.0 ghz Pentium 4
    1 gig ram
    Nvidia 7800
    Windows XP

looks like you are trying to start a multiplayer game :-|

make sure on the main menu the protocol is Single Player and NOT IPX or TCP

Single player is selected, the other two options are grayed out.

This sets your game to IPX. If you want to make it single player, you want to set Last Protocol Used=0. That makes the game single player on start.

All my drivers are up to date and I have the latest version of DirectX 9c. I've tried everything except the last option in the technical FAQ that said to rollback to DirectX 7, which I'm not willing to do. Thanks to all you guys that tried to help though.
