Can't Pickpocket Aesgareth's Deck of Many Things

    I've been exploring Watcher's Keep before facing Irenicus in Sundalenessar and reached the end of level 3. I read that you can steal Aesgareth's Deck of Many Things. So after talking to him before playing his game I pickpocketed him til I couldn't but I didn't get the deck.

    I tried reloading my save game and pickpocketed him again but result was the same. I then left then returned to the dungeon but still no luck.

    Has anyone encountered this problem? Is there another way to get the deck aside from killing him or using a cheat? I'd like to get the maximum amount of quest experience from Aesgareth and get the deck as well.

    I've always been able to either pick pocket it or get it off his corpse. Do you have the patches installed?

    He's rather difficult to pick-pocket; you might want to drink a few potions before you try.

    There are some gloves found ar CCoronet which raises PickPocket, these may help.

    Thanks for your quick responses.

    Yes. I've installed the official patches as well as several from Baldurdash. I also installed the Ascension mod for ToB. I also drank some master thievery and mind focusing potions til I had a pickpocketing skill of 300 but I the deck was unattainable.

    I don't know if any of the patches I installed affected it but I'm sure that I didn't install a patch that would specifically prohibit me to steal the deck. I'm guessing that it might be because I'm in Watcher Keep in SoA mode and not ToB but it highly unlikely.

    If nothing else works then I may have to just reinstall the game though thats no assurance that I'll be able to pickpocket it. Or... I could just create the deck using the cheat codes but I'll just consume the necessary thieving potions just to be fair.

    I just killed him. I found taking out a couple of the Tieflings such as the mage on the one end first a definite advantage to my side of the fight. A quick death to the druid at the other end of the group is also a good idea early on in the fight.

    The ability to force attack is my friend.

    I was never able to pickpocket the deck from him, after getting a gem and another minor trincket I always get "target has no valid item" or something.
    on my last run I manage to win the second game and we both bid with the gems, so he attacked and I took the deck of his corpse
