hey everyone. i'm planning on starting a "challenge" party. By this i mean a party with no pure fighters and only one or two multi class ones, my PC is going to be a gnome cleric/illusionist. First of all do you think its possible and secondly any ideas on the NPC's i should get? it is going to be a good/neutral party.

I don't think it is possible. Fighters are the building blocks of your party and without them, you'll be dead in no time. If you insist on having a "challenge"
party then you should take these guys with you:
    1) Xan
    2) Yeslick
    3) Coran (multi class fighter)
    4) Branwen
    5) Imoen

    It's your choice.

    @Darkslayer

You've got three clerics in that party now, a bit much if you ask me.

And there are no impossible parties, with perhaps the exception of a solo single class mage.

    My recommendation:

    Cleric/illusionist
    Yeslick - fighter cleric
    Immy (duel to mage)
    Garrick or Eldoth - bards
Kivan or Ajantis - ranger and paladin (they are not pure fighters but they can pack quite a punch)

Oh, I thought Rangers and Paladins aren't allowed allowed in the list. I thought they went in the "fighter" category. Well OF COURSE you need Kivan and Ajantis!

    @Apeman

What!? My PC was a Paladin, I took those guys (listed on my reply) and My PC gave Sarevok a major butt kicking with the help of THOSE guys! With Imoen and Coran firing arrows, My clerics summoning skellies and healing me if I get seriously injured. It worked like a dream and before you know it, Sarevok turned into dust!

P.S NOW I think it's possible to win the game with a "challenge" party.

    Challenge party?

Garrick, Imoen, Xan, Safana or Alora, Coran

That would be a challenge -- hey, at least you have Coran.

thanks for your help guys, but i forgot to mention, by pure fighters I also meant rangers and paladins. do you still think it is possible? or do you think I should have at least 1 'pure' fighter?

Sure it's possible as long as you do not engage hand to hand with the enemies.

Ranged weapons are your friend

Hmm... Yes, I also think you should get ranged weapons and not go hand-to-hand with enemies
    (especially Sarevok). There's a 40/100 chance that you'll win.

    Ok then, I've decided on:

    PC: cleric/illusionist gnome

    NPC's: Yeslick
    Jaheira
    Coran
    Imoen
    Xan

    What do you think?

Good party, but I wouldn't call it a really big challange. Now you do have a large amount of healers (3), for extra challange you could use melee weapons solely. You should be able to heal most of the extra damage you characters sustain.

Why does everyone seem to think it absolutely necessary to have six characters in the party? That would be a real challenge if you chose only three NPCs in your party that were non-fighters and played through like that. Why not try it with just Xan, Yeslick and Imoen or something? This way it is a challenge but you still have someone from each necessary category to play around with.

A little change of plans, I just installed DsotSC, are there any NPC's you guys would suggest I take from the mod?

Never played Dark side, it's supposed to be pretty buggy and terribly unbalanced.
