[IMG] I have been bored for quite some time now with BG, after completing the game with nearly every character type and with low stats to up the difficulty. Was wondering if I could have a list of some mods that would seriously up the challenge, especially for a game set on the insane mode option. I already have Ascension and some others, but nothing has really done much for me. Thank you!

P.S. Possibly a mod that is still challenging even when your characters have reached a higher level and are better armed. I really do not want have to weaken myself too much.

Well, there is some challenging mods out there.
I'll just list those I can remember:

Solaufein has quite some challenging battles included, if you don't mind adding an extra NPC
Valen NPC, like Solaufein, also holds an quite challenging battle.
    There's alsoImproved Battles
    Throne Of Bhaal Enhancements
    Azengaard Tactical Encounter
    Improved Asylum
    Improved Battles
    Tactics mod

Also, The BoM item pack, which I coded, holds a quite tough fight that you can engage whenever you feel like (any chapter, both in SoA and ToB).

That's pretty much everything I could remember right now :rolling:

    Cheers!

Thank you for your help, but I probably should have been more specific. I have all of the mods you listed (except the BoM Item pack, which I surely intend to download). Do you (or anyone else who is reading this) know of some really large-scale mods that keep the storyline the same but vastly improve enemy A.I. and their resources?

Tried oversight mod? It makes Sendai a total powerhouse, she is no longer weaker than other Ascension enemies. She is cool too! Find it here:
    http://www.gibberlings3.net/

Oh also try Turn-about, it makes the final battle of Ascension all more fun, I had GORION by my side for example. It is also in the same place.

Know Ascension? I think you have it though. It improves all bosses except Sendai to...awesome half-gods!

I hope you have tactics and imp.battles ALL components installed and had fun with Imp.Bodhi/Irenicus final battle?

What about Rogue Rebalancing? This makes Shadowthieves very tough, organized and smart, I had troubles beating them yesterday!

Try flirt, banter, quest packs, they add a lot of spice and flavour to the game. (who does not want bathing with Jaheira and/or Aerie in a very small bath tub? Or shaving Anomen's beard...hehe you get my point. :shake: )

What I am looking for is something akin to Ascension or the Tactics mod in that it dramatically boosts the general resources of almost every monster in the game and also adds/replaces key enemies.

The problem is that the mods you are talking about already have your enemies essentially cheating in order to be difficult. They also introduce some seriously high powered games that, in the end, actually make combat easier. Try playing without most of that stuff and use SimDing0's quest pack and then add on DefJam. QP has a component that makes overall improvements to enemy AI without having your enemies cheat. DefJam will lower all the absurd quest experience and experience gained for using thieving abilities and scribing scrolls. Zyraen (over at PPG) made a mod that will reduce the overpowered items found in BG2 and ToB to something more sane. Use those mods and play the game on insane and I think you'll be in for a surprise. EDIT: Also, you may find some of the components of Borsook's Mix Mod to your liking.

Another mod I have tried recently that adds some challenging encounters is the Deeper Shadows of Amn (weidu version) which can be found here .

The mod has many components which are already part of the Tactics mod except 4 of them:
a)The Curse of the Underground Shade Lord
b)The Brown Dragon in the Druid Grove
    c)Grothgar the Red dragon
    d)The Ghost Shadow Dragon

So if you have already Tactics, install only these four components from the mod.
The ''Curse of the Underground Shade Lord'' is a challenging encounter if you do it early in the game.A battle of over 300.000 EXP.,good magical items, spells and lots of money.Try it with a 12-level party if you want to add difficulty.

If you have completed the game with mods playing on insane and you don't find it difficult enough, you can go solo with a non mage-class with mods like Tactics,Improved Battles,Ascension installed. This will make it very challenging.

Well I fought a Firkraag, he was in human form, dualwielded two nasty weapons and summoned evil minions, then turned into dragon and teleported away. After that I fought with him again too later, he was like Ritual Dragon. Is it Rastor's one or tactics? I AM kinda confused here so help me out please! (I have so many mods! :shake: )

    It was the Tactics' Firkraag.
Rastor's Firkraag is different. The fight takes place inside the dragon's lair but is a hard fight too.Maybe even harder since Super Firkraag has a demi-lich's attitude :D
But at least he doesn't cheat like the Tactics' one.

On contrary, he does :p Rastor uses quite some ForceSpell and ReallyForceSpells... What's 'cheating' about these is that the ForceSpell ones, iirc, will cast even if you should throw a time stop, seeing as the script keeps running. Furthermore the ReallyForceSpell allows him to cast his spells at creatures that ain't wihtin his sight of view ;) .

    Yes it's true.
But the point is that since I started playing BG with mods I don't consider Force-casting spells cheating anymore :p

Nevertheless, it *is*, and you would consider it cheating if you yourself were able to cast using ForceSpell, wouldn't you ;) .

    But I get your point.
