Yet another political spat going on, when commenting about Howard Dean:

Wow, take off the gloves. Cheney really laid into Dean. And just what was Dean's response:

Oh my. As leader of Democratic Party Dean is shaping the future of the party in America. Instead Dean appears to be the democratic version of Quail. The party needs a leader not a cheerleader. AIIIEEEYYAAHHH!

    Just shoot me now.

Actually, I think Dean became irrelevant the moment he accepted the position of the president of the DNC. If he is the leader of the Democratic Party, it is in name only, and a figurehead position at best.

He's never going to run for president again, simply because he has turned himself into a political lightning rod. The only players worth talking about in terms of the 2008 nomination are Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden, who announced today he plans to run in 2008.

There is something else to note about a similarity between Dean and Cheney - Dick isn't running for president either. So as far as I'm concerned, they can have their spats as much as they like. Dean IS irrelevant, and Cheney currently IS irrelevant and will remain so unless Bush dies.

Unless President Bush is impeached

Dean’s political ambitions for the Presidency are irrelevant almost to the point of being unworthy of discussion. Unless a moderate (Joe Biden?) steps up takes on Hillary and the Clinton machine, the 2008 nomination will go to her.

There are very good reasons why Hillary doesn't want Dean out of the DNC. She doesn't need DNC money to back her, but anyone running against her in the primaries will. Given the incredibly poor job Dean has been doing raising money, why would she want him replaced? (No, Hillary does not have the good of the Democratic Party anywhere in her heart; Hillary is about Hillary and nothing else) Another aspect of this is she can actually afford to burn a little political capital and distance herself from Dean, as it isn't like they are buddies now (understatement), and that will make her opponents in the primaries either have to maintain their support for the Deaniot (killing them in the southern states), or face a loss of support from the DNC (killing their war coffers).

These spats are all good for Hillary, and bad for anyone that opposes her.

Unless the Republicans actually catch a clue and change direction, I think my vote in '08 will go to Biden if he is nominated. If Hillary gets the nomination, I will vote for whoever is running on the Libertarian ticket, and hope and pray that Hillary wins the Presidency, and that the Republicans manage to hold slim majorities in both houses of Congress. Hopefully, if enough of the Republican base runs off to the Libertarian party the Republicans will wake up, clean up their "tax and spend" mentality and start once again respecting peoples rights of property and privacy.
