Does it affect both enemies and friends? The description says nothing about this. I have used it against the doppelgangers exposed when exiting the icewall and Rahm Dammel and the other soldiers turned against me.

Since I'm trying a no-reload game, does killing Rahm Dammel - commander of Luskan forces - have any future negative effect?

Circle of death? I don't remember that one. Thought they was just power word and wail of the banshee.
Don't worry about the Luskanites. You don't really come across them anymore

[IMG] Circle of Death is one of those spells that ends up getting neglected because of that "max. level 9" feature. Since it's hard to know for sure the level of your opponents, risking a casting round on a potentially useless spell seems unwise.
What may happen here, is that the neutral soldiers are categorized as enemies, since they are neither party members nor summons.
Casting area effect spells is always risky when there are neutral characters around. Damaging them is not necessary: even causing them to roll a save can be enough. The Targos palisade battle is notorious for it: A mere Entangle or Grease spellcan turn the whole village hostile, forcing you to reload:(.

I hate the Targos level. It's such a chew on!
