    Spoiler Warning if any applies.

I freed the alienage elves from the slavers (sometimes letting the slaver leader go home with nothing and sometimes killing him) and it seems the city elves won't help me fight the darkspawn.

How do I get them to aid in the battle?

They won't as far as I can tell. I thought it was made pretty clear and obvious they would be in over their heads anyway. Shianni cutting down Ogres and Hurlocks with her bow? Unlikely. ;) You've gotta be the hero that comes and saves the day.

The city elves dont help, theyre starving peasants. Arent the the Redcliff army, dwarven army, circle of mages and the Dalish elves enough?

I haven't gotten close to the Final Battle (Denerim) with him yet but I currently have an elf warrior I'm building into a 2-handed weapon (goal is elf with a big axe) templar/champion.

According to the Wikia (which can be wrong) city elf wardens are helped by city elves (using bows and arrows) in the alienage.

Also some people who have played through using other types of characters claim that they have gotten the alienage elves to help them fight the darkspawn.

I'm not talking about Shianni doing anything like beheading the ogre but it would be interesting to see if she and the other elves put some arrows into it.

I seem to remember them helping me clear out the general in the alienage when I was doing that before the final battles. They were not available as a force to summon like the other armies on your wheel of cannon fodder.

Do you recall what you cunning score and coercion skill were at for that character?

    Were you a city elf?

Do you remember what decisions you made that the elves may favor?

    EDIT:

    Ok, thanks for the info.

I think I was Dalish and helped out the city elves. No recollection of the cunning score at all.

If my memory serves, dont the alienage residents just appear already fighting with the darkspawn as you move through the area?

When you show up their are some elves at the barricade holding the darkspawn back but they usually run away when the barricade starts to go.

I was referring to when the warden (at least as I understand) talks with Shianni and some of them actually agree to stay and help you fight the darkspawn trying to get into the alienage.
