Ok, I'm looking for a mod that'll allow any class to wield any weapon (because I think it's stupid that my 19str Mage can't even wield a flippin' short sword...).
I found one (called Ashes of Embers), that, among other things, does this. However, it crashes when installing this particular section of the mod. Then I realized that it said this feature was ToB only...
So, does anybody know where I can find a mod that'll do this for SoA? Or is it not possible (for it to be implemented)?

It's possible to fix it, but it will involve some works (like you will have to remove all TOB-only items and some such). If you know how to use Weidu, you can do it yourself.

The best thing to do, of course, would be to buy TOB and install it :D

EDIT: Actually there is a rather simple way to do this. One of the 2DA files (forgot its name, but I'm sure someone else with the game installed can tell you) lists which weapons are available to which class. All you have to do is go edit that file. Then, another file (or the same? I forget) has how many proficiencies can be put in each weapon for each class, so you can edit that as well.

It might be that the sheer act of allowing proficiencies for a weapon (in the second file) is enough to allow you to use it (if that's true, it means the first file I mentionned doesn't exist :o ). I remember the proficiencies file starts with a W.

I think you're thinking of CLASWEAP.2DA which is a BG1 leftover and doesn't actually do anything.

Editing WEAPPROF.2DA would allow you to put points in the weapon proficiencies but not actually to use them - you'd need to edit the individual item files too to do this.

Er... No, I don't know how to use WeiDU. =/
I apprieciate the help, but a simple yes or no would have done. I don't want to edit anything, mostly through fear of knacking something.
    And laziness.
    And general coding incompetence.
But thanks for the help anywho. Guess my mage is just going to have to keep dreaming... And, uh, hitting stuff with a staff...

Download Ashes of Embers from PPG. It features Universal Weapons, among other things. It's a separate component, so if you don't like the other mod components you won't need to install all of them.

Thanks, CamDawg, but I already tried Ashes of Embers. It's ToB only...

EDIT - Waitamo! Ashes of Embers DOES have a mod for SoA! (It's just called something different. Doh!). But, uh, it still crashes. =/
It says ERROR: Failure<"resource [kuobolt[1-2]\\.itm] not found"> after installing 260 other files. It then goes and uninstalls all those other files...
Why? What in heckity is a kuobolt?

It's supposed to work on SoA as far as I know--trying posting on the AoE board or emailing Ghreyfain.
