Inspired by Bel's tale of his almost flip, is anyone else willing to share their own close calls?

    Here's mine:
About 4 years back, I was in the back seat of a mate's mum's Rav4, mate driving, three others with us, doing about 120km on the beach. The idiot decided to drive over a huge pile of seaweed not realising there was another huge pile beside it with a small ditch between the two. Managed to launch the Rav4 about 6' in the air (maybe not quite 6' but it felt like it) and landed about 10' past the second pile, on two wheels. If it hadn't been for the fact that we WERE on the beach, it probably would have rolled, resulting in more than just killer headaches all around.

Not much really I guess, but damn it scared about 10 years off my life at the time.

I've been in a few accidents. One rollover, a couple times having hit the ditch.

I have been in far to many ditches to count and have driven off of several bridges and cliffs(no more than 15 feet). The moral of the story DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE

All you peoples "accidents" involve cars  Well mine involves a bus :D

About three years back now, I was waiting at a bus stop like one tends to wait at bus stops. After a while the bus was in sight and everyone moved towards the place the bus would stop. The bus drove up, onto the foot path, hit me and I went flying about 2.5 metres into the wall behind me.

I was luckey, only ending up with a few cuts and a sore arm and back.

My 5th grade Christmas celebration was held outside. We had one of those HUGE map supporter thingies as a stage prop.... It separated me from the other "actors" at one point... along comes a huge gust of wind, the supporter thingy falls, I jump out of the way and head first down a stairway to prevent gettin smacked on the head.

Near death? Definitely. Had I not gotten out of the way my skull would've been a goner.

About 10 years ago I was driving along the highway between Brisbane and Sydney and just after we passed the border there was a section of the highway that was still wet from recent thunderstorms.

We started to drift onto the wrong lane and at 110km/h that was scary for my friend in the passenger seat. It was more scary that another car was coming the other way, so he grabbed the wheel and spun it to get out of the way.

We carreered off the highway spinning 180 degrees into some sugar cane fields backwards and sideways.

When the car stopped I was about 1 metre from a highway telephone pole. If it wasn't for the sugar cane (and God's mercy) I would not be typing now.

I didn't even have enough time to consider screaming...

[IMG] I was up at the top of the volcano in Maui - an island of the Republic of Hawaii.

This volcano is quite dormant, and visitors can look into the enormous crater and watch the pumes of sulfur rise from vents. Its actually quite beautiful and ugly at the same time.

Anyway, I climbed a bit past where we are supposed to go and promptly lost my footing. I regained it very quickly. Had I fallen, I would have tumbled down the slope and the fell the 300+ feet to the crater bottom.

I've never really come close to dying. The closest I've come is nearly being blinded! I was playing chess one day, the guy pushes the board, some freak wind catches it, and a corner smacks me about one or two centimeters from my left eye!

[IMG] In college (undergraduate), I worked as a garbage man in the summer to help pay for school. (Yes, I even got to ride on the back of the trucks!!! How cool is that?!?!) anyway, I almost lost my left hand in the trash compactor, luckily, the guy I was riding with noticed what was happening and shut it down!

Almost got hit by a bus while I were in Germany eight years ago, I walked on the pavement, but the driver weren't of the best :D

Last year I almost broke my neck in a ski accident; flew about 12 to 15 foot up in the air and landed on back while I rotated backwards...

I had a close call on a bus this year. I was sat at the front next to the window and a lorry ran into the side of it just beside my head, it actually scraped the window. if it had gone through it would have killed me :(

I was about 12 and one of my friends decided to take up knife throwing as a past time, I walked through the door(his target) and the knife missed me by about a half inch.I launched it back at him  which is still wish I hadnt done(big hole in the wall) the stud I hit with the knife has about a 4 inch deep hole in it now.

P.S. I wasnt trying to hit him, just scare him enough not to do it again

i was struck by lightning once. Ha, beat that.

10 years old was i. Beside a public telephone was i. Getting bored of waiting my friend, i used a coin in my hand to keep tapping the telephone. Then light flashed, i felt a strong charge through my body, i heard thunder. And i still survived. i felt pain inside out from my bone though.

Of course now i would occasionally mock at heaven "you can't kill me, you can't kill me".

Well I've been on a quadbike once and I was a little too big for it (I was on a child one because I was too small for the adults ones)As I turned round a corner I flipped sideways, pivoting on my head (I had a helmet on luckily) and then back the right way up and into a stack of tires, the 'protection wall'. It was actually quite fun although if I hadn't been wearing a helment my neck and head would probably have got injured.

At my primary school there was a metal banister which people slid down from one level to the other. I tried this and lent back to far, I fell off and somehow landed on my feet. Again it was pretty flukey and lucky because I could have fallen head first onto concrete.

I've also done a front flip onto my back when I went ski-ing with my School. I was ski-ing along when someone turned so I hit their ski's side on. My feet came out of the clips and I went head over heels onto my back. Luckily the snow was deep so it didn't hurt.

Hmm I am one flukey flipping fool!

I didn't come close to death I don't think but I had a serious concussion and a damaged back from a hit from behind in hockey.

I was turning to go up ice when a guy caught me from behind and launched me headfirst into the boards. I don't remember much after the hit, but I came to and my coach was shining a flashlight in my eyes. When they showed me my helmit it had a sliver of wood stick in the side and a huge red mark from the paint of the boards.
