I just saw Annika Sörenstam strike her first blow on the Colonial on the PGA tour. I think it is interesting to see the best female competeting against the men and I hope and think that she can make the cut.

Ofcourse I also feel pride for a fellow countrywoman. What do you people think about a woman competeting with the men?

[IMG] I think it's great! I just wish women would get liberated enough to let me become a househusband, so I could stay home and post on the internet all day.....

In a sport like golf, I'm all for coed competitions. In hockey or football, though, I have my reservations . . .

    I hope she wins!

Nothing, I usually lose.  :D :D

I've been beaten in chess, Warcraft 3 and drinking-competition. Revoke the right to vote.

No, I am not a sore looserman. I just like winning better.

I think golf is well behind the times when it comes to women competing against/with men, and the history of separation probably has more to do with country club attitudes than any honest assessment of athletic skill. When success at an activity is determined by more than sheer size or muscle strength - such as agility, strategy, precision - there's nothing to be lost for athletes of either gender. Indeed, competing against opponents whose fundamental approach to the game is vastly different from your own just may improve your own repetoire of skills.

Go, Annika, go! I hope she makes the cut and places well overall, but I hardly think it will be some gross failure on her part if she doesn't. Unfortunately, no matter how she does, far more will be made of this event than it truly deserves.

She is one under par! :D Sweet.
Golf actually differs a bit between men and women, mens drives are longer is the most obvious one. What surprised me though was that the courses women play on are alot easier and kinder than what the males play on. I just found that incredibly odd.

I concur with you Rallymamma, the hype is immense and over the top. However that seems to be how it is today, either a thing gets hyped beyond all sense or it gets no attention at all. Moderation does not seem to be modern these days.

So do men now get to compete in the LPGA?

I think I could do real well in women's volleyball.

What other men have been in all-women leauges? What? NONE?

Hmmm ... so it isn't fair. How odd.

Wait, wait, househusband...Sir Belisarius is onto something here...

As for a woman competing against the men in the golf tourney, hey, rock on Annika. Golf's all about skill, and if she has it, then she has it.

Ahem...Quickie, however, most assuredly does NOT have it...

@Mat: How many men have asked to play in all-female leagues and been turned down? ;)

@Bel ... I was a cheerleader (no joke) in college. I'll tell you about the road-trips over a pint someday.

@Rally ... hey, those pillow fights got fierce!

Golf is where you look at a lot of grass with occasional names and numbers across the television screen, right?
By all means let women try their luck in male dominated competitions. Damn shame they aren't in Formula 1. And yes Pillow fights rock, at drunk College parties, especially if women are with...
