See? Apart from saving so much money, you also get a trip to a nice foreign city and the beer here is much cheaper (and probably better ) than yours.

But we seem to have the most expensive medicines in Europe, so be aware.

 

At least you get some treatment; around here you have to hang in the lines for about *six* MONTHS before you even get a chance to say what is wrong. Honestly, the government really should loosen up the doctors requisites to boost the number of graduates. If not for anything else, then at least for competition. By the sound of it, something like that would be quite welcome to Britain too.

 

Same here about public healthcare. The guy went to a private dentist. Public dentistry is a nightmare here and you probably have to pay for pretty much everything, anyway, just somewhat less than in private offices. Or do you mean you have to wait six months to see a private dentist? Here, I just need to make a call and the following day I'm getting professional service for about 30 euro per tooth, materials included.

 

Oh sure, but what's the treatment?

Anesthesia - whacked on the head with a mallet

"Drilling" - chisel and hammer

Filling - a wad of gum

Rinse - I don't even want to think about it

 

I don't doubt that for one second.

Well, I need a root cannal, and a crown...and my dad just canceled my dental insurance, so I'd have to pick up the tab of $2,500 for that little work. So maybe a $500 plane ticket to Poland wouldn't be such a bad idea.

My current Dentist thinks he can charge what ever he wants since he is the "official" Jazz team dentist. To me, that isn't a complement.

 

Doubt you would have to pay more than $100 total here for that. If the dentist considered himself a local hero like yours, maybe a little bit of an extra.

 

Anaesthesia. Don't know. Never take it.

Drilling. Diamond drill.

Filling. Acryl or ceramics, depends what you need and want you want.

Rinse. What do you mean by this one? There's some acid for dissolving old fill, some special rubber for cleaning things off your teeth, some special drills for getting rid of scale before polishing...

 

Anaesthesia -- I took it for a time, local, syringe, 5-10 minute hit, 60-90 minute work
Drilling -- either diamond drill or hard laser.
Filling -- it's usually photohardening, but you can get anything.
Rinsing -- you get a drain, plus a cup of water (always lukewarm) to rinse for yourself, of course you can get anything you want if you wish to.

Oh, and one photohardening filling is around $15, so the guy got ripped off. 12 fillings should cost no more than $150, because you'll get a discount.

 

I have my sincere doubts about that beer of yours Chev.

 

I use the services of a place called "University Students Health-central (USHC)." Direct translation, so don't think the name too much, but the point is that I have no idea is it public or private since every uni-student has to pay a mandatory healthcare fee every year and yet USHC isn't controlled by government. Probably need to contact someone about this and ask about their responsibilities...

chev -- funny thing is that you have to pay 55 zl (PLN) for a white photohardening filling in public healthcare, and 50 zl in private. Plus, you get a completely free check-up. I've had restorative treatment for bottom ones, because I didn't have roots for second teeth. White porcelain bridgework cost me 200 zl five years ago -- about $50 -- in a private office. Public healthcare wanted 150 zl more, and offered gold teeth (for friggin' ones!).

Oh yes, I didn't mispell -- 200 zl -- $50. Including all preparations (three visits and lacquering) and anaesthesia. How much you said it was for a filling?

Come to think of it, the titanium/porcelain screw replacements cost 2000 zl (perhaps 500 zl more), which means up to $800. Once again, how much you said it was for a filling?

 

Hmm... it probably depends on the city. I had to pay 80-120 PLN for each filling. People who care for anaesthesia pay 20 zl more.

 

Just have 'em pulled and get dentures. That's what people here do. (They really do.)
