    Hello all.

I'm about to fire up the old beast for one more go. Likely my last one before retiring it, and I'm planning on making it one to remember. I also have far less free time than I used to and will be playing this game in small increments over several months, so I want to make this install count.

It's been a while since I installed a slew of mods, and I'd like some help in determining if my current lineup is going to work out. I'm thinking about doing the run clear through BG1 (with EasyTutu), which I've never done before.

Here's my install list, please correct any errors in my install order or incompatibility red flags you may see.

    • BG 1 + ToSC, with official patch
    • BG 2 + ToB, with official patch
    • Collector's Edition merchants
    Followed by:
    • EasyTutu
    • G3's Tutu fixpack
    • G3's BG2 Tweak Pack
    • G3's NPC Kitpack
    • G3's Divine Remix (won't add all kits)
    • Unfinished Business
    • Quest Pack
    • Dungeon-be-gone
    • Ascension - Latest Weidu version (some componants)
    • Weimer's Tactics (some componants)
    • Wiemer's Ease of Use (some componants)
    • Wiemer's Item Upgrade (is Improved Anvil better?)
    • Weimer's Spell 50
    • Weimer's Underrepresented Items
    • Rogue Rebalancing Mod (love the Chosen of Cyric encounter)
    • SP Collection
    • SP Item pack
    • Freedom's Reign of Virtue
    • Kelsey (might cut this one)
    • Indira NPC (for the BG portion)
Thinking of also adding in Improved Anvil, it sounds interesting.

    Thanks in advance, everyone. :)

    edit: Added 3 Gibberling's 3 mods I forgot about.

For EasyTutu game,s no Fixpacks are needed as Macready incorporates them directly into Tutu, so you can skip the Fixpack. Ease of Use is also not needed, as it's been superseded by the BG2 Tweak Pack. Many of the other mods listed are for BG2 and won't have any effect in a Tutu game (Ascension, Kelsey, Item Upgrade, etc.)

Otherwise, cmorgan's compatibility and install order thread is probably the best resource, along with its associated discussion thread. It will also help clarify what components from some of your mods will and won't have an impact on a Tutu game.

edit: Ah, missed the bit about you wanting to play all the way through (i.e. BG2 also). The above post was just regarding an EasyTutu game, so carry on. :)

If you decide to use Improved Anvil for BG2 (either now or in the future), make sure to thoroughly read its installation instructions. BTW, you can find a long topic about IA at Bioware too, by the way (its name is "The Campfire: A Place to Share Tales of Heroism and Adventure (Part 3)". I think part 4 isn't IA.) Also note that it's known as the ultimate tactical challenge for BG2, so it can be very tough.

Meh, I think I'll skip IA then. Between tactics and ascension, it's plenty tough - and I'm not looking to prove anything, just have a good game. :)

Based on the thread CamDawg linked to, it appears everything here will be compatible, except that the Rogue Rebalancing mod will automatically leave out the Chosen of Cyric encounter upon installation - bummer.

Does anyone know if any issues that might arise from the combination I have above?

I think there may be some confusion here--EasyTutu converts BG to be played in the BG2 engine, but the BG2 content is not available. Even if you could, installing the CoC encounter wouldn't do anything for you because the Tutu game ends with the death of Sarevok under the city of Baldur's Gate. To play BG2 content, you'll need to migrate your characters to a non-Tutu BG2 install and then play the BG2 content (with whatever BG2 mods you want).

If you want BG and BG2 as part of one game, you'll need BGT, not Tutu. All of the mods in which you're interested are, I believe, available for both.

Whether you go with Tutu or BGT, check out Sword Coast Stratagems for tactical challenges while you're in the BG section of the game, as neither Tactics nor Ascension will affect this.

You're right - I was confused. I'd thought that BGTrilogy and Tutu were two different mods that did essentially the same thing. So if I have Tutu installed, can I NOT play a SoA or ToB game until I uninstall Tutu? I'd thought you could freely start a game in either area.

And thanks for the rec - I'll download SC Strategums.

You can play Tutu and SoA/ToB at the same time, since EasyTutu does a separate installation for it.

The difference between Tutu and BGT is that in BGT you don't have to import you character to SoA to continue, it continues on it's own. Tutu is like having BG1 and BG2 separate

I had doubts too, but eventually I thought you planned a BG2 game as well, after the Tutu one. :)

Be sure to check out my compatibility guide. You can find the recommended install order (in regards to RR) there as well. FYI, the mod is fully compatible with both BGT and (Easy)TuTu. :)

BTW, if you don't mind the wait, I'm planning to update Rogue Rebalancing to v3.8 in about a week or so.

Ok, I installed everything and all is working fine. However, I was unable to install the EasyTutu NPC mod, where you can assign kits to the NPCs. Every time I tried to install it, the program would run, but it would give me an error message on each individual NPC when selecting the 1-3 option. What gives? The only thing I can think of is that I also have the "All NPCs at the beginning" mod installed as well, but that only moves around their starting locations, as far as I know, and doesn't actually modify their character files in any way.

    Any thoughts?

In what order did you install EasyTutu NPC?

I did that last. It went: TosC & final patch, BG1 Unfinished Business, then right after I installed Easy Tutu, then "NPCs at the Beginning," then Easy Tutu NPC. Bad?

Maybe, EasyTutu NPC Kit Selection should be the first mod to be installed.

Also, I might me wrong but BG1UB should be install after you install Easy Tutu, there is after all a Tutu version of BG1UB

That might be it - I didn't install the Tutu version of UB. At least, I don't think I did. Oh well.

Will GateKeeper work to install the kits?

No, as far as I know, you can use ShadowKeeper with EasyTutu though

Death Rabbit, check your install order, please - you may end up with some oddities. EasyTutu is designed to be installed from a clean base: if you installed BG1 UB before you installed EasyTutu, you installed it on BG, not on EasyTutu!

If you follow your order above, like this:
    • BG 1 + ToSC, with official patch
    • BG 2 + ToB, with official patch
    • Collector's Edition merchants
Then install EasyTutu, you have three separate directories: ../BaldursGate/, ../BaldursGateTutu/ , and ../BGII - SoA/)

    In EasyTutu (../BaldursGateTutu/)
    • [unneeded on EasyTutu] G3's Tutu fixpack << I wouldn't install it - it is pretty much just a Tutu v4 fixer now. And you can get most of the same tweaks from BG2 tweaks.
    • EasyTutu kits
    • The rest of the mods you want on Tutu
    • G3's BG2 Tweak Pack
    And on your BG2 install (../BG II - SoA/)
put the others, installing again on this game
    • BG2 Fixpack
    • BG2 Unfinished Business
    • Quest Pack
    • Dungeon-be-gone
    • etc., etc, whatever you want
    • Ascension - (some components)
    • BG2 Tweaks
The Ease of Use mod is now all merged and updated into BG2 Tweaks, so I would use that one instead of Weimer's original one; other than that, the dudes and dudettes around here will have better suggestions on BG2 instll order than I will. But I thinkyou want to go back and make sure you are putting the right mod in the right folder, on the right engine - you have two separate games, each a whole "book". Separate installs.
