I read last weekend in the Sunday papers that the following are some of the movie sequels due out over the next couple of years but can't imagine how some of them can happen. I'm just wondering if anyone else out there has seen/heard anything about any of these:

    1) Gladiator 2
    2) Easy Rider 2 (how on earth?)
    3) Jurassic Park 4 (WHY on earth?)
    4) Mission: Impossible 3
    5) Jimmy Neutron 2
    6) Dirty Dancing 2 (another 'why on earth?')

    Those that I knew about:

    1) X-Men 3
    2) Indiana Jones 4
    3) Mad Max 4
    4) Batman 5 (they actually printed it as Batman 4)

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights is out next week in the USA. You can find out for yourself. The trailer looks pretty dire though.

    Check out the trailer here . . . .

But Johnny Castle will make an appearance!

The Indiana Jones sequel is something that's not going to happen for a long time. Someone wrote a script for it that Spielberg loved and was all ready to shoot it this year, but Lucas didn't like it, and decided to rewrite it himself. And as such, it won't even start production for another year or two. Frankly, I'd rather they just left Indiana Jones alone, it had a perfect ending to the series in the Last Crusade.

Mission Impossible 3 is supposedly due out 6 May 2005.

Indy Jones IV was supposed to start shooting next year, but, yes, there do seem to be issues with the script which will delay things a bit. Plus Spielberg is now starting work on 'The Rivals' and an as yet unnamed secret project. Plus, Lucas may be too tied up with getting Episode III wrapped up (along with putting together the Star Wars DVD - hooray!! ) to find time to get happy with the Indy script.

    Watch this space.

Pirates of the freakin' Carribean! Why would anyone butcher this movie with two sequels?

I have no faith in Disney.

Also - Lucas's scripts suck - Attack of the Clones anyone?
(But then, it could be just Hayden Christianson's terrible acting that makes them seem crap)

Why exactly are sequels to Pirates of the Carribean a bad thing? The first one was great, and provided the crew working on it stays the same, I see no reason why the sequels shouldn't be as good as the original.

Disney have a tendancy to butcher good things with sequels ... actually, most things are butchered by their sequels.

I don't know about that. Peter Pan 2 and the Lion King 2 were really good. (snicker)(chuckle)(guffaw)

I'm curious about Mad Max 4. The other movies were great. Weirdly I often think about those movies when I'm opening a can of catfood...

I think I'll go surf the net for some info.

Indiana Jones sequel has been pushed back to Summer 2006 instead of Summer 2005. Look, before they decided to make it, Spielberg, Lucas, and Ford said they would *all* have to agree on it before they did it. I don't think they are totally throwing out Frank Darabont's script, just re-working it. A similar thing was done with the ESB script in Star Wars, and we all know how much fans love that one. I'm glad they are taking their time. The Last Crusade is good, but there is room for more. I'm excited about an older Indy. It's good for Indiana's overall character arc.

I'd like to see an older Luke Skywalker in Episodes VII-IX, but now that's a stretch :p But I like the idea of 1-3 being about Anakin. 4-6 about Luke and Anakin. And 7-9 about Luke.

I see nothing wrong with AOTC either. Well, the execution of Dooku's character is a bit sketch (he should have either been introduced in TPM, or earlier in AOTC IMHO), but I think Episode III will make all things clear. Things that were done the way they were in Episodes I and II will make more sense. Any good storyteller knows his ending and works up to it from there. The first thing anyone should know about their script before they begin writting it is their ending. Without it, you have no destination to work towards, and wander aimlessly. From the beginning of the prequels, Lucas said he looked most forward to making Episode III, his eyes clearly set on the ending. I think Lucas knows his ending, and all will make sense. One thing's for sure. Come Episode III, a lot of people are going to be eating crow. But which ones? ;)

Edit: There is no need for a Gladiator 2. Gladiator begins with its ending (see what I was talking about - you have to know your ending). Well, it's a circular story that tells all it needs to tell. Maximus gets back with his family. What room is there for another movie?

Blade 3 is coming out this summer too. It was filmed here in Canada but I rather imagine that, as usual, they will claim the story is taking place somewhere in the USA.

The Chronicle of Riddick is coming out right away, it's the sequel to Pitch Black.

They are going to make The Ring 2.

I would love a next Gladiator movie, but i'm curious how they'll bring it. I mean, the maincharacter is dead, the evil Roman emperor is dead, what's left to continue the story ? It would be more like a stand alone if you ask me.

What I've heard about Gladiator 2 is that it's less 'violent' than the first one, also I think it won't be with any of the ones in the original Gladiator so I think it's just kind of a new movie.

There's also a 'sequel' to Starship Troopers coming up. However, it's straight to VHS/DVD, had a rather low budget and doesn't have any of the original cast in it. So I'm rather dubious of the quality of the movie.

Well, I didn't find the original Gladiator to be that violent. What did they do to make the script of the number 2 less violent, give it to Disney?
