I was toying around (imagine that) with paladin's 2da for max_spells. It started making me wonder how you would 'make' them gain mage spells. I remember the old version of rangers used to get mage spells, but now they get clerical. How would you go about changing a 2da to make a char gain both cleric and mage spells? My main goal is to try to get a stalker (closest thing I can think of to a thief) that would gain mage spells, cuz I can modify the spell gains on 2da for the clerical spells. Anybody have any ideas?

I sure wish there were a cleric/mage/thief in the game. *grumble*

I believe that you would have to "remake" every mage spell into a cleric spell as well. The spells the Stalker get are just cleric duplications of the mage spell.

I think it's hardcoded into the class which grouping of spells they get. The stalker getting the three mage spells it gets is specially set up to get those three in its CLAB (CLass ABilities) 2DA file. And you still wouldn't get them as mage spells.

Another way to do it would be to grab all the 100+ (IIRC) mage spells with a spell editor and change each one from a mage spell to a cleric spell, or vice versa with the divine spells. I have positively no idea if it would actually work, though, and may just mess with your game. Fortunately it'd be very undoable; just delete every SPL file from your override and you'd be done.

If you want a Cleric/Mage/Thief, I remember hearing something about a kit that was made that resembled a F/M/C/T, and levelled as a single class. I believe it was called the Reaver kit.

Option #4: Get a 3e game, like IWD2 or NWN. The free multiclassing of the 3e system will let you advance in whatever class you wish each time you level up.

And finally, there isn't a C/M/T or F/M/C/T for a reason. Roleplaying games are based on the idea of parties, not one person going it alone that can do it all. It's about characters interacting, and in battle complementing each other's strengths and weaknesses. Even the whole point of soloing is to find ways to cover up your weaknesses while exploiting your strengths. If a solo character had no weaknesses, it'd be supremely boring.

You can always use the semi-multi mod. At the cost of 2 points of strength and 2 points of constitution, a wizard can add a couple cleric spells per level to his spell book. I'd rather see it apply an experience penalty instead but beggars can't be choosers and I'm too lazy to mod it to make it work the way I want it to myself.
