Coolest weapons that you never seem to use

Going through solo exaggerates this effect, but it's really annoying finding a really cool weapon that is just slightly weaker than one of the weapons you're using already. For example, I've just found the Flaming Mace of Disruption, which gives fire damage, + chance of more fire damage, + disruption against outsiders and undead, but still, the damage is just not enough, even for a one-handed weapon. Base damage is I think just 1d8 or 1d8 + 1, which is what gets multiplied when you score a critical hit. Since I get tons of criticals (with luck items), anything less than +5 really has to have extraordinary powers to be worth using, and that just ain't it.

Same goes for the Battleaxe of Burning, the Brilliant Flail of Wounding, Cold Fire (the bastard sword +3 with 1d6 flame + ice damage), etc. Even the Halberd of the North can't compare with the Grim Widow-Through and then Coward's Flight (which has to be one of the best weapons in the game, period). Heart of Fury even gives you lots of true +5 weapons with abilities I won't ever use.

And after getting the Big Black Flying Death, every other projectile weapon just pales in comparison, except for those special arrows with effects (like Dispel or no-save Entangle).

What are the best weapons you guys find yourselves never using?

Well, I never used Pustule's Flail, although it's a good weapon. I hate the thought that my Gold Dwarf fighter stinks...

    The holy avenger.
2-handed weapons are much cooler. :D

I always use the 2 handed version of Cera Sumat. I can't remember the last time I still used the one handed version.

I never seem to use those cool throwing axes, because I almost never have a character with any specialisation in axes, which is wierd, because axes are some of the best weapons in the game.

I´m about to offend many people with this comment:
    ANY BASTARD SWORD!!!!
They are very cool, but you need a character planned in advance(and most necessary: a figther class) just to put two or three feats in the bastard sword abbility, and why?
The two hand weapon are great, and the shield-type person does not have any awesome protection(shields sucks), the two weapon figth may look VERY COOL but in toe to toe combat:mmhh...a good Two hand sword(or axe) means FAR more damage than two weapons(and one of them "ligth"),so...
Oh, also ANY kind of flail, they´re all sucks!

I've never used Cloudkiss before, even though it looks quite impressive and seems to be very effective in some battles but still ...

Cloudkiss tends to do small damage to a large group of people, but it's quite fun trying to line them up :)

Cloudkiss is one of the best weapons to use against Isair and Madae. It hits them both for an extra five points of electrical damage.

Although there are some great slings in the game, I always opt for bows and crossbows. Also, I never use the weapons which negate the armor AC bonuses of the enemy.

Until I installed the EoU mod I never used Bastard Swords. I also never use any cursed weapons (most of which used to be bastard swords!). There are one or two flails I have used, but also tend to ignore these too.

Are there any cool quarterstaffs out there? I never seem to use them either.

Cloudkiss is great in HoF mode, with a summons (to get surrounded), followed by Symbol of Hopelessness. Only used this tactic once, although I might use it against the driders when I reach them.

Explain to me why Cloudkiss is so great because I don't really see it :p

I NEVER use slings, never have, never will. Don't know why though ... Guess I just like sharp weapons :D

Umm there's like some good quarterstaves even in normal mode! I love staff of greater magic resistance +5! I think you get it in the Fields of Slaughter but I can't pinpoint it :( Also, Rymoru's (I think) Harmless Staff! GREAT WEAPON!

Yeah, the Staff of Greater Spell Resistance +5 was my weapon of choice for a decent chunk of the endgame of normal mode, until I got my hands on a Greatsword of the Soulless +5. The DC of the Staff must be pretty high, since almost everyone failed their fortitude saves (in normal mode) and took some pretty hefty poison damage.

I think I never mess with quarterstaffs, because other 2-handed weapons do more damage (2D6 for a greatsword vs 1D6 for a quarterstaff). I suppose the advantage would be the bludgeoning damage type...

@Windrunner - you don't like slings, but like the staff of greater magic resistance +5? Both do bludgeoning damage.
As for Cloudkiss - I used my tactic against the wererats (and spiders) in HoF mode. It was the easiest time I've ever had in that area. You just got to remember that it hits EVERYTHING in it's path (I've hit my own party members enough times to learn to use this weapon sparingly).

I do actually carry both quartstaves you all mentioned, but use neither (I may not use them, but I remain rather sentimental about them!)

I was just wondering, does anybody use Rymoru's Harmless Staff or the HoF version? I can see how people could betray the weapon not to be that powerful but I was wondering if it is actually useful in HoF?

I thought that it did too little damage to be that useful. I tried using it since it's so cool, but other weapons took it's place quite easily.

I guess in some battles it would be ok ...

Just a question, would Tymora's Loop rings have an effect with this weapon???

I tried 2 Tymora's Loops and Ned's Lucky Knucky with the weapon and it didn't seem to have any effect.

I guess you would've tested it a lot then to get a accurate outcome, so was the weapon useful during this time ;)

Well actually, now that I think about it, I had a luck of +8, which is very apparent if the Harmless Staff is using a d20 for its special effects rolls, but if it was using a D100, then I'm not so sure. Going from a 5% chance to a 13% chance is not too noticeable, as I didn't do any painstaking tests. I just remember adding up all the percentages for the expected value of effect per hit (around 1), and that was about what happened as a result. Not sure if it actually increased to 1.5 per hit, or something like that. All I know is that since I thought it was a d20, the effect should have been dramatic, and it wasn't.

That Harmless Staff is hilarious. Like a Wild Mage in a weapon. Shame it has no +enchantment so can't really be used as your main weapon for large parts of the game. I love the corny kung fu names of the random effects.

I remember the Harmless Staff. I used to give it to my wizards, seeing they wouldn't see much melee anyways. Funny one, really.
