Hey all- my question is, if you could create your own party, what would it be- dont worry about putting their stats, most people should be able to figure them out

    1. (Main Character)Human Sorcerer- just an awesome mage
    2. Human Fighter dualled to mage at level 8 with proficiency in two handed style, quarterstaff and sling
    3. Elf Thief/Mage- very nice for a third spell caster and an awesome theif, also gets some great HLA's
    4. Half elf Ranger/Cleric- gets all cleric spells except druids and makes a pretty good fighter
    5. Human Kensai- awesome fighter class, defianetely kicks @$$ with grand mastery in warhammer and katana for the celestial fury and crom faeyr- just awesome.
    6. Monk- level 40- 78% magic resistance, -6 base armor class, -19 versus missles, hands are +4 weapons, and he moves extremely fast- sweet

This party is just awesome 4 characters can fight very well, 4 spell casters- the only thing that its really missing is a paly for holy avenger, but i couldnt decide weather to drop the the their/mage for it or not. Either way, not much will live long enough to attack once the sorcerer and the kensai get their high level ablities.

    .....interesting.
Well if i created my own party it would include:

    1) (main character) Half-elf ranger, preficent
(spelling?) with double handed swords :)
    2) Human, Mage, with a lot of defence destroying
    spells
and death spells, main weapon being a sling
    and quarterstaff
    3) Halfling Swashbuckler, using a katana and
shield until he gets the use any item specal
ability, then changing to a double handed
    swoard
    4) Human Preist of Helm, Using war hammer and
shield, with a lot of healing magic and
    anti-undead spells
    5) Either: Human or half elf skald dual weilding
    two swords.
Or: Human Monk, with no weapons of course :)

That would be a party i would and have on a few accations used in BG2. Sometimes i might add and undead hunter when those darn vampires get on my nevers and usually s/he has a double handed sword as well.

    @ andrew61388

    Check this out:

    http://www.sorcerers.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=10;t=001799#000004

It's a thread I started a while back about creating a full party that utilizes as many cool aspects of the game as possible. I think you'll find it worth checking out. The party I ended up with in this group was:

Human Inquisitor (or your favorite Paladin)
    Elven Sorcerer
    Gnomish Mage/Thief
Half-Elven cleric ranger (though the dual class option may be interesting to try...)
Pure Kensai (probably half-orc) or Monk, pick your fave
    Shapeshifter (improved version)

Read the thread. Some very interesting arguements came up here.

Instead of a purely created party, I like to create a few characters of my own and take along some NPCs as well. Sometimes I'll edit the NPCs a little, like making Sarevok a Kensai (*shiver*), though it may mess up some game progression (we'll see). Here's what I'm aiming for:

    Human Inquisitor (PC)
    Elven Fighter/Thief
    Elven Sorcerer
    Viconia
    Sarevok (edited to Kensai)
Imoen (just to tag along for story)

    Powergaming party:

Inquisitor (Carsomyr, staff of the ram)
F/T (Dual Katanas, especially the cheesy acid one, mace of disruption for undead)
F/C (Crom and Flail of Ages, the rune hammer for undead)
F/M (pick your short bow, any one of the good longs swords depending on what needs boosting, shield)
    Monk (Ummm... his hands?)
Sorceror (SotM, throwing daggers, that sling that needs no ammo whose name I cannot remember)

(Monk can be swapped out for F/Druid if you're willing to do what it takes to get over that experience hump we've seen with Jaheira)

    Role playing:

    Cavalier (Carsomyr)
Either Blade or pure bard (One or two short swords)
Cleric (Maces and hammers with shield)
Bounty Hunter (long swords, long bows)
Conjuror or Invoker (Sling, dagger, staff)
    Monk (Ummm... his hands?)

Weapons are not the most powerful but the most cool (i.e., best story, Lilacor until Carsomyr is obtained -- imagine the Paladin lecturing the sword on the virtues of being noble). Weapons are not discarded generally even if a better one is found, exception being those that raise stats noticeably, as I could easily role play a character becoming dependant on a blade that boosts strength.

here is a party i did not long ago:

    Half-orc Kensai
    Human Monk
    Human Kensai\Thief
    Human Assasin\Fighter
    Human Conjuror\Cleric
    Human Kensai\Mage

a very difficult party to play, but the end result is sweet.
u have enough mage spells throughout the game.
potions will composate for the lack of heal spells from the cleric class.
the dualed thiefs will cover each other when they arent thief or dual into the second class.
there are at least 4 chars capable enough to fight and 1 char good enough to be thrown in when needed.

the disadvantage is that it takes time to get this party's fully power. And u will be weak in difficult parts of the game, but thats what the kensai\mage, kensai and monk is for isnt it? hehe.

if i would do a new party it would be with npc's
    or like this:

    Paladin
    barbarian
    wizard slayer
    Druid\something
    Archer (ranger)
    Sorceror or wild mage.

Let's see, every party needs a tank, healer, magic user, rogue, and of course a death machine.

Tank: Figher (any kit other than Kensai), Barbarian, or Cavalier.
    Healer: Any Cleric or Druid.
Magic User: Wild Mage or Conjuror.
    Rogue: True class, or swashbuckler.
Death Machine: Archer, Kensai, or Monk.

This leaves one slot for whatever utility character you might want, or you could just add another of the above, however I would recommend an Inquisitor, his is abilities are priceless and he doubles as a second tank. Wizard Slayers (if not already in the party) and Undead Hunters would also be acceptable.

I think that if I wanted my own party I would go for IWD or IWD2, the NPCs of BG2 are what make the game.

I have tried to do this before but it was too lame.

Intresting- seems kensai is standard in all parties

    @khazraj
What sort of moron are you? We're in a BG2 post, and I ask what sort of party people would create, and you go and say that the parties in BG2 suck and youd rather play IWD. Go to a ****ing IWD board then, *******.

[You need to go read the rules for these boards. If I see another outburst like this one, you will no longer be welcome - BTA]

Yikes, dude. There's no need to be that harsh. You'd do well to watch your tone. Just because you're new doesn't mean you can't get banned just the same. zTry and show a little more respect to people who've been here a lot longer than you have.

We're all friends here - even if we don't agree on things.

I guess I am just a moron. I mean that to me, making my own party of 6 in BG2 is not as fun as having a character and 5 NPCs. If I want 6 characters of my own then...

I think you get the picture, but don't listen to a moron...
