[IMG] Okay, it seems that I've finally found the inner strength to pick up the Baldur's Gate II CD again! This time, I decided to take things for an evil spin; my character is Icarus the Mad, champion of, well, Madness, Insanity, and general all-around Carnage (he's a Berserker/Cleric of whoever's in charge of that stuff, maybe Cyric?).

So, this is basically the first time I've gone around solo (MAYBE I'll pick up Viccy, Haerry, or Eddy on the way), as well as a Fighter/Cleric. Any advice, pointers, or comments?

Cyric sounds about right. To make it interesting, you can be a cleric (or paladin) of one of the other rather vicious gods:

    • Loviatar - LE - Pain, hurt, torture
This is the god of torturers, terrorists and sadistic creatures.
      .
    • Malar - CE - Hunters, beasts, blood
The Clerics of Malar are like a combination of rangers and beasts. I like this guy for some reason!

There aren't paladins of an evil god. Only paladins of the Neutral Good, Lawful Good and Lawful Neutral gods. I don't think being a Cleric of Cyric is a good idea. If you plan to play into ToB it will become apparant. I'd suggest Malar as the deity or even Talos since one is into the whole evil beast thing while the other is into reckless descruction.

There is only one problem I can see with your party. If you want to power play it you probably won't want Jan since he'll just be an XP hog. You might want to make your character a Cleric/Assassin of Mask.

[IMG] The whole class for good characters has always bugged me about AD&D. The paladin is really a fighter that fights for the glory and idiology of a god. In AD&D terms, this is usually Helm, Lathander or Tyr.

But the class should be expanded since other fighters can exist that exemplify the ideals of other gods.

    Anti-Paladins = Evil gods.
They're stronger than most paladins, since they are fewer, and cheating, etc. are all part of their code of dishonor.

Standard D&D rules never catered for evil paladins which was always a shame. There was a kit add-on for PnP which gave you anti-paladins and I believe you can download a kit for BG2 so you can play as an anti-paladin.

V3 has fixed this with the Black Guard class, which is pretty cool.

To be honest though, in BG2 you'll find that a Beserker/Cleric (if dualled at the right level) can be far more powerful that a Paladin anyway.

See the TOB forum for more info on the Cleric abilities, especially the Holy Symbol. Combine all this with a Beserker and what an awesome character.

As to what deity, then I reckon Talos suits a mad beserker cleric and Talos is all about destruction. Beside which, when playing BG2 as a cleric your stronghold will be the temple of Talos so it would be silly to be a cleric of Malar staying at the temple of Talos.

Not true. Many gods with the same agenda often have priets from other faiths staying as permenant residents in their temples to avoid having to build another temple out there.

Yes, but if yoy play through to TOB then you would be a Cleric of Malar with a Holy Symbol of Talos.
