[IMG] I have just finished Chapter 4 (just killed the wizard fellow at the bottom of the Cloakwood Mines).

    My current party is:
Arya (Human Paladin 6) - uses the Scimitar +3 that naughty Imoen stole from Drizz't.
    Minsc 6 - uses 2-handed sword +2
Dyanheir 6 - uses Magic Missile and Fireball
Imoen (Thief 3 / Wizard 4) - use Magic Missile and Short Bow +1
Branwen 5 - heals and uses Hammer +1
Coran 4/4 - uses 98 Stealth and Boots of Speed to explore the whole map in quick time then is a lethal dead-eye with his Composite Long Bow +1

My experience so far is that Arya and Minsc can handle 75% of encounters by themselves, with Coran picking off anybody beyond melee range. Coran's awesome sneaking skills also allow Dyanheir to burn up any large groups of enemies before they even see anyone coming. Branwen doesn't do much except Heal and Imoen does almost nothing now (except the odd Magic Missile to help disrupt enemy spellcasters).

Is this party well-placed to move on into Chapter 5? I have no idea what Chapter 5 has in store (I've managed to avoid reading the walk-throughs) but are there any changes I should make to this party before moving on? This is a good party (reputation is at 20) so evil characters are probably out of the question.

The party is fine. I would've taken Yeslick (dwarf you just set free in the cloakwood mines) instead of Branwen but that's just a matter of preference.

Coran+Minsc gives an effective ranged+melee firepower.
The following set is identical or better though: Minsc as ranged (and melee when needed), and a Paladin (I don't want to post a spoiler, so no more information on him/her), instead of Coran. Of course if you already have improved Coran a lot, it might not worth replacing him.
Although to each his own, of course.

In the question of priest, I've always improved Branwen because she was easy to get at the beginning, and later the exchange didn't worth it. (So if this is your case too, your party is perfect IMO)

Personally I'd drop Imoen for Kivan as a second archer, especially as her thieving skills are going to be fairly low having dual-classed her. Otherwise the party is my prefered option. (Coran needs a lot of points into trap detection though)

At the risk of a Spoiler, Branwen can be made a better melee fighter when you get to the city. She's also useful for Chant, Bless etc.

Now that you cleared the mines, you will have more freedom of choice. Quests and NPCs will show up in Baldur's Gate.
You dual classed Imoen, so her detect traps is not so high, that's the little problem in your party.
