    There's more information in the press release Atari has recently issued, but this is the part of interest to us:

    "Under the new agreement;

    -- Infogrames is granted exclusive rights to DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS in all interactive formats for the next ten years. Three new games are planned to release in 2005 and 2006 by Atari: D&D Online, NeverWinter Nights 2 and Dragonshard."

    Do I hear collective ughs?

    Well, it could have been worse... Could have been EA, after all (thank God for small mercies). You can read the whole press release at Atari.

    Sounds like playing BG,BG2,IWD,IWD2,PsT over and over again for the next 10 years to me.
    Well, I can never grow tired of them, classics are forever, but somehow I wished there were more such games to come... :sosad:

    Since when did great gaming depend on any one liscense?

    If an established developer can't get their hands on one particular liscense, hopefully this would just encourage them to develop their own IPs, their own unique games and settings, much as Bioware did with Jade Empire, and is doing with Dragon Age.

    Well, Atari doesn't develop any games, but it holds the D&D licence, which means that they get to pick who makes D&D games, and they set the terms... which translates to shipping games when they say so, not when they're done (read ToEE). Though, to be honest, Troika screwed up with ToEE mostly on their own, and admitted as much.
