[IMG] I tried putting the DEC on Jan yesterday, but he wasn't allowed to wear it because he is a mage. The item description, however, says that fighter-mages may wear it but it is not useable by mages. What classes are actually allowed to wear this armor? FM, TM, FMT, FMC?

That is odd. I thought thief/mages were allowed to use it, as they can wear elvin chain. In fact, I currently have a party in underdark, and I know Imoen (who is dual-classed instead of multi-classed) is wearing the dark elvin chain and can still cast spells. AFAIK, the only class that can't wear it are straight mages...

Yep, with Aldeth 100% there. Last time i played it both Imoen and Aerie had it on. And my Blade. Maybe Jan doesn't have the strength to wear it? That's the only reason i can think of.

Hmmm... Good point. I hadn't considered a strength requirement as a possibility. The only problem with that is I believe Imoen, Jan and Aerie all have strengths in the range of 9 or 10, so chances are strength isn't an issue. Still, I don't know why Jan can't wear it. I will say that I have had Jan in my parties in the underdark before, but I'm unsure if he was wearing the armor or not. Geez - he usually is in my parties too, which means since I'm in the underdark I'd normally be able to verify this.

I'm posting about the "Dark Elven Chain" that is on the Handmaiden of Lolth who tries to assasinate Viconia not the "Drow Elven Chain" that dissintigrates upon leaving the underdark.

Well, this is probably unrelated, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.

I’m currently playing an all-rogue party (single-classed rogues only), and I wanted to use NPC’s. The problem, of course, is that there are only two single-class NPC rogues in the game, so I decided to use SK to change some NPC’s who I thought would “fit”. I decided to make Jan into a jester (I envisioned him turning one of his stupid stories into a song, and driving enemies crazy with it :D ).

The problem is that now all of Jan’s special equipment is “redded” out, meaning he can’t equip it. Since I hadn’t unequipped it before I used SK, he can still use it and get the benefits, but as soon as he un-equips it now, he can’t re-equip it.

So there must be something in Jan’s coding causing this, and it may be the same thing causing the problem with the dark elven chain.

Oh, now I get it CUE. I think you may have to be evil to equip it, which Jan is not.

@Splunge - it's not in Jan's coding but on his items - his armor is restricted to mage-thieves.

I just got the armor and it won't work on any of my characters, not even Viconia. I wonder what the problem is.

I've put the dark elven chain from the Handmaiden of Lolth onto Viconia before. With her it might be a Str problem as she's pretty puny, but giving her the Str 18 mace should take care of that problem.

Yeah, I had unequipped the mace for some reason, but after a lot of attempts, I've concluded that the armor is only for Viconia.

[IMG] I just tried eqipping it on others. My half-elven fighter can use it, Korgan, and Viconia can use it. Haer'Dalis and Jan can not. I think that the problem is with the armor. The icon and picture are exactly like the Ashen Scales armor, which can not be used by bards, druids, thieves, nor mages. Perhaps the Dark Elven chain was copied from this item, but the restrictions were not changed.

For some reason this bug is upsetting me more than it should. Does anyone have any advise as to which program I should use to edit this item so that it works per its description? Thank you.

Haer and Jan can't use it since they are not evil. Bards and thieves can still use it if they're evil though.

What's wrong with the description? It specifically says you have to be evil.

[IMG] The item description doesn't have anything about being evil in it. You're right though. I just created a multiplayer game with an evil thief and imported my character with the armor. The evil thief can wear it but the good one can not.

It doesn't have it in the end listing, but it is in the main descriptive text.

This mail feels more akin to cloth than to metal, and may be worn by thieves with few penalties and by fighter-mages without removing their spellcasting ability. This variety of mail is woven by masters in almost exactly the same form by both elves and the Drow; it has changed little since the Drow's elven past and is used for surface forays where Adamantine Drow chain would decay.

The light-coloured Elven variety of this armor has no restrictions other than class-inherent, but the dark Drow variety is magically attuned to its owner, and thus may only be worn by those of evil alignments.

That's odd. In my game the text only reads:

This mail feels more akin to cloth than to metal, and may be worn by thieves with few penalties and by fighter-mages without removing their spellcasting ability.

    STATISTICS:

    Armor Class: 4
    Weight: 8
    Requires: 5 Strength

    Druid
    Mage

Do the texts get updated with TOB installed or do you have some sort of update other thatn the normal one installed?

Hadn't thought of that. I have the game text update from Baldurdash.org, which I believe is designed to take care of just these sort of problems.

And where do I get this Dark Elven Chain? I've played through the game several times but I just can't recall where and if I ever found it.
