    Maybe it was an experiment: how fast will the wax bubble... i wonder if he put it on a frying pan first, or straight on the burner. Now that the stove is ruled out, maybe the microwave holds possibilities.

    Although this sort of thing is tragic, i cant help but cringe when i imagine the poor sucker standing before St. Peter, looking a bit sheepish, and saying 'yea... actually that WAS the way it happened'

    I remember mine coming with a label on it not to open it or do something stupid with it, but I don't remember the details. I'm sure the ones sold in the US come with a mile of warnings, considering how long they've been around and how many lawsuits must have been filed in the past after things like this happened.

    The Death by Flying Shrimp thing was only a matter of time, but Mr Lava Lamp is definitely a candidate for a Darwin Award IMO. That's more than just your plain old garden-variety stupidity. Maybe they should put a warning on Lava Lamps now along the lines of a warning notice seen on a hotel-room hairdryer - "Do not use in shower". :nuts:
