Has anyone done TotSC solo? There have been a few threads on this topic but no one gave a meaningful reply.

I am slightly worried about whether or not a double-neophyte (I've never played TotSC before in addition to this being my first solo run) will be able to do it.

I'd say it's impossible. Some battles in Durlag's Tower especially.

    You'd say?

Does that mean you've never tried a solo but judging from your experience with a party it would be impossible, or that you have tried and ran smack into a brick wall, sorry charlie but you're screwed kind of situation.

    Which one?

[IMG] I'd say that some battles in Durlag's Tower are so hard it's next to impossible to go through them without losing at least one, if not more characters, in a full party. Especially the fight with the dwarf guardians that must all be killed before you can advance, and there's no chance in hell one character could kill them all. Not without some very lame tricks which would mean cheating, anyway. But I suppose if you start off with cheating as the only possible solution to solo through some battles, then sure, it's possible. Anything's possible that way.

And yes, I'm basing my posts on experience with a full party.

Heh, heh - the battles in Durlag's Tower were doable for my solo fighter-thief - see the old BG Solo Campaign thread. Scrolls of Protection from Undead and Arrows of Dispelling were very helpful, and I used a lot of the old divide & conquer strategy.

Firstly, what is a double-neophyte when it's at home??

Secondly, it was hardly difficult at all using my solo f/t. I did all of durlags tower in about 3 hours and the wierd little frozen island in no time at all. The only extra thing i used was potion of speed and strength. Took out that bad demon at the bottom in about 3 hits with backstab. And the 4 little dudes/dopplegangers that you have to kill loads of times, just draw them off one at a time if needs be.

That cult were slightly tricky because of their number, and the fact that they were fairly hard themselves, but still took them out. When they released the demon i took potion of speed, killed all the followers and moved on to the demon itself. It got on a few hits but was no match for me.

I didn't bother with the werewolf quest coz i wanted to get the game finished (i was getting bored of being so unstoppable, there was no challenge) and knew that the experience that i would have gotten wouldn't have been enough for me to level.

I even took out sarevok at the end in about 4 or 6 hits. Nothing special at all, i was just a walking tank.

    Intentioner,
Did you remove the experience cap?

[IMG] No, but i had dark side installed so i guess that might have raised the exp cap somewhat. When i play the game again i think i will stick to bg with tosc, not dark side. There are too many rules they forgot to implement (example, a black plate mail that a f/t could use all thief abilities while wearing. May have to use a more challenging class as well, not a fighter class.

I managed to do every fight in the game with a solo fighter/thief except for the final one with Sarevok. I got Tazok and Semaj but never seemed to be able to inflict enough damage on Sarevok to kill him.

I did the fight with the dwarf guardians by firing my bow at one of them and then running out of the way with my boots of speed. Every time they wounded me badly I ran back up the stairs, quaffed a load of healing potions and ran back down. Took a while but I eventually killed them all.

    Offhand,

I'm thoroughly skeptical that anybody could solo the following fights:

    1) Karoug, his wolfwere cronies, and that mage who's going to cast confusion.

    2) Aeclectec

Yeah, the Demon Aeclectec was really hard.
    Much harder than any other.
It's the only fight I almost considered not doing in BG1.
After about 10 reloads I finally got him.

How could someone solo and kill him unless they remove the XP cap?

A Level 8 Fighter or Level 9 Mage all alone against him?
    :toofar:

Well, if a Mage summoned 100s of monsters to help maybe...

I beat Karoug and his cronies by hitting them a few times and then retreating back down the stairs every time I got badly wounded. Once I was outside, I'd quaff some healing potions and head back up. Took a while but I got them all in the end.

I handled Aet'Letec pretty much the same way. Wound the Cult guards with arrows, run away with boots of speed every time the Demon gets too close. If things start getting too heavy, run up the stairs, go to the Ulgoth's Beard inn and rest up till I'm fully healed then go back and continue the fight.

Probably not the most honourable way to fight, but it's certainly possible.

What ticked me off was that none of my weapons seemed to even scratch Karoug except for that little silver dagger. Not even Twinkle or the Sword of Balduran could touch him. I found this so annoying that in protest, I hacked the Sword of Balduran, made it a +5 weapon (+9 against shapeshifters...mwa ha ha...) gave it both the "gold" and "silver" tags so it could hit both Karoug and the Loup Garou, left its speed factor alone so that it had some disadvantage due to being made of gold, and gave it a constant glow like Twinkle for the sake of style. Finally, an uber-weapon worthy of the name of Balduran!

So, can you beat ToTSC solo? Yes. Without cheating? Not likely.

P.S. The demon's name is *Aec'Letec*, ye mispelling miscreants! Behold his might! Spell his name correctly and forget not his apostrophe, lest ye perish in terrible flame!

[IMG] dshadow: I can't really understand how you did the whole game solo with a F/T, and then had to give up on Sarevok. I also soloed with a F/T, and I thought the battle against Sarevok was much easier than for example Aec'Letec...
Maybe it's just me after all...

I just couldn't seem to wound Sarevok enough to kill him, as well as dodging out of the way of Angelo's explosive arrows and Semaj's spells AND the area of traps in the middle (which I wasn't able to disarm no matter how many times I tried). It also didn't help that once Sarevok shows up you can't sneak out of there and heal up. I only beat Aet'Letec and Karoug by running away every time the fight turned against me.

The dwarven doom guards are easy enemies in Durlags Tower if you are a magic-specialist.
The doom guards are effected by paralyzation magic, they have bad saving throws against this.
Simply paralyze and kill them.Use wands.

I have been through TotSC with solo bard. But I employed some roleplaying and she concluded that venturing to a dungeon (Durlag's Tower, down) nobody returned from is a bad idea :D ...
    I'm not being much of a help, am I :( ?
My best trump were summons, acid arrows and Algernon's cloak.
