Dang, I'm addicted to SK'g fireballs, and other sub-5th level spells to my Paladin. I kind of got bored cuz without cheating, I managed to get to Chapter 7 the other day, and realized just minsc and Jaheira alone duo'd that vampire chick..forgot her name. Irenicus' sister that is. The game seems too easy sometimes, then way too hard other times. I don't know how to spice it up without going overboard on cheating :p (aka 'fireballing paladin') I figured it'd be fun since the paladin's level casting is 9 at max. So isn't too much of an overkill..maybe!

If there is a point to your topic, I fail to see it. You're looking to make game more challenging? Install Tactics mod for SoA portion of the game, and Ascension for ToB portion of the game. Too hard? I don't see how, vanilla game gets too easy after your second time throught :p But if it's really too hard, decrease difficulty in game options. And yes, adding fireballs to your paladin spell list is cheating. If nothing else, fireball is arcane spell, and paladins are divine spellcasters.

And if you think that beating Bodhi with Jaheira and Minsc was something, let me tell you, it wasn't. I managed to beat it with Viconia alone. Granted, she was around level 30(27 or something like that), but still. Bodhi isn't hard to beat at all in vanilla game.

I'm not sure what are you asking, but if you need mage spells etc. there is the book of infinitive spells and some weapons like daystar that give you atleast one offensive spell/day

S/he wasn't asking anything. Tony was just commenting on his game, something people do from time to time.

When I use CTRL+Y/CTRL+R, I pretend it's intervention from Daddy Bhaal to keep his strongest 'spawn alive and kicking. ;)

@Clixby He wants to have a heir, so probably not.

@kuemp 'Daddy Bhaal' seems to be doing the same thing to my potagonist, too ;)

Actually, Clixby is correct. The more Bhaalspawn that die, the more essence is available. Bhaal wanted to live again, not have someone tkae over from him.

I figured Bhaal was taking a page from Bane's book: have a kid, let him/her get really powerful, take over the body.

I didn't think of it that way actually. Fair point kuemper. OTOH, wouldn't it make more sense for him to protect a Bhaalspawn like Abazigal who has considerable physical power from his draconic heritage in addition to intellect?

Abazigal is messed up and doesn't either in the game or from what can be pieced together have the necessary qualities to be counted as a powerful dragon. Either Physically or Intellectually. T

winked to an extent yes. Flimsily put together certainly. More powerful than the main character? hardly.

In fact maybe it's my tendancy's towards casters but the last time I played a wild mage I obliterated Abizagal almost entirely through the spells of my single main character in a time stop.

Several others here like to toe to toe him with warriors and prefer the challenge of him buffed through a mod.

That doesn't sound too different from the cavalier I created once - I loaded him up with 100% fire resistance and gave him the harbinger sword and wished for fireballs to detonate.

Was CHARNAME more powerful at the beginning of BG? I did not pick Abazigal because I felt he was the best, more because he would be obviously more powerfulback then. Bhaal was dead the entire time and so would be just as likely to pick a champion then as a year or so later. While pick some weakling just out of Candlekeep who has nothing overtly special to mark them apart form other 'spawn?

Secondly, intellect is neither here nor there. As long as they have the power, ambition and cunning to appear the most powerful, I doubt Bhaal would care all that much about their IQ. When he possesses them, he would replace their mind with his own and so their intelligence would make no difference.

Actually there is Demon Knight kit mod for Paladins IIRC. You may find it interesting! They can even summon demons!

Somehow I doubt those are the LG paladins known to everybody :p But, I wouldn't mind giving it a try. A link perhaps? Just a name would help.

I was going to post the reply a few hours ago, but electricity went off, bummer...anyway.

Rejoice, for I have found BOTH Demon and Death Knight kit for BG2 for you!

Demon Knight is the part of Improved Battles mod, here is the kit: Behold!

DEMON KNIGHT: Humans which have been consumed by the taint of Demonic blood and
are twisted into corruption, making their actions and powers resemble those of a Demon. As a Demon Knight gains experience he or she gains many abilities that other demons have.

A few examples are great resistance towards fire and magic as well as being able to determine which plane he is in. (what does this mean? See below! ;) )

    Advantages:
    - Immune to fear and morale failure
    - Immune to hold
    - 40% resistance to fire
    - 12th level: Becomes immune to Maze
    - 15th level: Can summon a demon to aid in battle once per day
    - 21st level: Becomes immune to Imprisonment
    - Gains two points of magic resistance per level from level 1 to 20 (i.e. 40% at lv.20)
    - Can cast Demonic Fear one time per day for every 4 levels (starts at 1st level with one use): All enemies within the area of effect when this spell is cast must save vs. spells or flee in terror
    - Can cast Inner Sight one time per day for every 4 levels: When this spell is cast, an area roughly 70 feet in radius around the caster will be affected. Instantly and once each round for 1 turn after this spell is cast, all hostile illusion/phantasm spells in the area of effect wil be dispelled.
    - Can cast Fire Shield Red one time per day for every 8 levels (starts at 1st level with one use)
    - Can get Aura of Flaming Death as a high level ability

    Disadvantages:
    - May not specialize in weapons other than Two-Handed Swords, Bastard Swords,
    Long Swords and Halberds
    - Must have a Chaotic Evil alignment
    - May not become proficient in the 'Sword and Shield' style
    - May not dual-class
    - Must be Human
    - Maximum wisdom and charisma scores of 8
    - Cannot use ranged weapons

What do you think? Cool? Fun? Powerful? Cheesy?

As for Death Knight, suprise, it is the part of SP collection!

DEATH KNIGHT: A Death Knight is created when a fallen paladin dies. This is a very rare occurrence of resurrection. When this happens the newly risen Death Knight will become evil with many evil related abilities. Instead of being half-fighter and half-cleric like a paladin, they become half-fighter and half-necromancer instead. They gain necromancy spells as innate abilities in place of their regular priest spells.

    Advantages:
    - Gains Larloch's Minor Drain at levels 9 and 14.
    - Gains Ghoul Touch at levels 11 and 16.
    - Gains Vampiric Touch at levels 13, 16 and 17.
    - Gains Animate Dead at level 19.
    - Gains Harm Touch ability at level 1. Harm Touch is a direct damage ability and will do 2d10 points of damage +1 point per level up to a maximum of 2d10+20 with a successful to-hit roll.
    - Gains Ebony Hand ability at level 10. The spell adds +1 THAC0 plus an additional +1 THAC0 for every three levels of the caster up to a maximum of +7. The spell lasts for 3 rounds plus 1 round/level up to a maximum of 24 rounds.
    - Gains Kiss of Torment ability at level 15. With a successful to-hit roll, does 4d6 points of damage and stuns target for four rounds. A successful save will reduce the stun effect to two rounds.
    - Gains Heart Blight ability at level 19. Will slay the target unless a save vs. death is made; with a successful save the target is still stunned for three rounds, suffers a -2 Dexterity penalty for ten rounds. Additionally the target must make another save vs. death at -1 or lose 25% of their hit points and yet another save vs. death at -2 or suffer another 18 damage.

    Disadvantages:
    - No paladin abilities
    - Must be of Evil Alignment

    Looks evilly delicious, right?

Hope these nasty kits will make your game more enjoyable than SKing fireballs to your old pally. ;)

Nice I might just try those!

What about those 'sub kits' or templates or whatever, don't they add evil abilities to Paladins too?

Last word I heard, templates were buggy and cheesy and evil and trouble so I avoided them like plague, so I can not make a comment, sorry. :p

I always thought it would be nice if someone made a game where you could choose your race to be undead.

I mean, imagine you could choose an undead necromancer (lich). You choose your race, all other things like classes are chosen normally. undead could be immune to disease and poison, but vulnerable to fire and acid. they could suffer serious charisma penalties (I cant imagine a shopkeeper being impressed when a ghoul comes to shop), maybe dexterity penalties too with a bonus to strength or intelligence (all those years being dead gives you lots of time to think).

Silverstar, thanks for the info, those kits do look mighty delicious. Once I start my evil BG 2 campaign I will probably take one of those for my kit.

@Proteus_za: undead usually suffer penalty to constitution, which makes sense. Rotting a few years in a grave can't be good for your health :p 3.5 edition undead monsters actually have no constitution score, which gives them many a great bonuses. Penalty to a charisma? Maybe, but not too severe. Sure, charizma measures character physical attractivnes, but also his persuasiveness. And I believe that lich can be pretty persuasive when he want's to be. Maybe three, four points maximum penalty on charisma. Weimer did good job vith Valen and her stats, so if there should be a choice to choose an undead PC, I think that Valen can be a model for that.
