Would Torm be an acceptable diety for a LG Half-Elf monk?

I don't see why not, seeing as Torm is also LG.

I was thinking of the Triad, Tyr, Torm, and Illmater. Monks in general are not very religious, according the PHB, but the goals of the Triad are compatible with the monk's.

Yes, those three deities certainly have a good set of tenets for monastic organizations. I believe that the FR specific material mentions Orders of monks that are affiliated with those three gods.

I'm a bit dubious about the PHB definition of monks as areligious, since it doesn't really conform to any real world parallel. Monks aren't priests necessarily, but they are fundamentally a spiritual class. It may be that the religion de-emphasizes gods (like many kinds of Buddhism do), but that's entirely up to the DM.

    Hiya Bat :)

In the FR almost all people have some deity, for they know the gods are real and your soul will be taken by demons if you die and don't have a patron deity. So it shouldn't be a problem, imo.

  6. Not strictly true. Many people pay homage to all gods, specific ones for specific occasions. For example, you might pray to Umberlee before a sea voyage, or pray to Chauntea for good crops. If a person does do this instead of choosing a specific deity, when they die they are judged by Kelemvor, lord of the dead, and sent to the realm of whichever deity most suits their general outlook. It is only the false (falsely worshipping gods, or betraying a god) or the faithless (atheists) that are punished.

You have a chance to barter with the Baatezu on the Fugue plain . . . that would make a pretty slick adventure IMO.
