GameSpy have interviewed Don Daglow on the upcoming Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone. They focus on the settings, the characters, and how the development process went. Here's a snip:

GameSpy: Did you create the characters with Forgotten Realms in mind, or did you make them first and fit them into the world?

Don Daglow: Very much with the Realms in mind, in the context of all the factors discussed above. One great moment was a brainstorming session where Salvatore and the leaders of the creative crafts (design, art, tech, and audio) were developing all sorts of options for the game. Salvatore suddenly looked around the table and said, "What if our rogue were half-Drow? That would open up all sorts of character and story possibilities, since it's an almost-impossible combination. And it gives us interesting ways to include Drizzt [his hugely popular Drow character] in the game.

All the team members were very excited about this idea, and Zhai was "born" at that moment. The same thing happened several other times that day, and each time the ideas came from different people. That teamwork made this project especially fulfilling to work on.

That's hardly original and I hope Salvatore's job around this title doesn't come down to pulling the last penny out of popular cliches, beating them to death and beyond. Drizzt sells, so let's make a Drizztish half-drow and it will sell as well. And female. After all, there must be some change. And half-drow is not impossible: it's enough to assume yet another goodie-two-shoes drow convert back before the storyline starts. Wonder if he dual-wielded scimitars.

Hmm, I actually think they will make her the child of Drizz't. And what is not mentioned is that here being a Half-Drow is almost-impossible because her other half is Moonelf.

That's more unlikely than a drow-human combination, but still possible.

Well, the reason I suggested her being a descendant of Drizz't is cause I don't think any other Drow would get past their hatred of the surface Elves to mate with one, not even while raping one. At least that is how I always viewed their hatred, I could be wrong.
