Wow, I went and checked out the 2nd Ed. Monster Manual and I find that BG2 really wussed out the demons in the game. I get the feeling that BG2 was rather rushed.

Considering that the demonic involvement is definitely there, they could've been implemented properly. After all, most people are removing xp caps, hoarding powerful weapons like the Holy Avenger and Celestial Fury, and exploiting poor AI, etc, why not give the demons their full powers? Like the Balor wielding a vorpal blade. Like the demons attempting to Gate in more pals, etc. You get what I mean?

Also, I did a bit of checking, and the demon in ToSC is listed as a Glabrezu, but it's powers are rather Nabassu like (Death gaze, Vampiric Touch).

Another thing I heard in passing that the Baatezu were responsible for the fall of Myth Drannor. Is this true? What happened? Is there a book, and is it good?

Hmm? As far as I know an invading army of undead cause Myth Drannor's fall. But that's about all I know about it. If anyone knows a book that details it, please reply to this topic. I've read the first two books in the Elminster trilogy and a part of the third one, but it it seems that only the glory days of Cormanthor and way after that (after Myth falls) are described there.

I agree. But then again how much can they program into the game. I was upset with the Pit fiends too, check those out in the manual.

You should be able to buy the Monster manual at any book or specialty store. Although, 2nd may be harder to find because they put the 3rd out already.

Ah... the best book about monsters is the Fiend Folio, but it's quite hard to find it now :).

[IMG] Argh, I heard from one of the Ruins of Myth Drannor developers that Baatezu did it, but according to RPG vault it was a horde of Yugoloths.

Pit Fiends? Absolutely horrible. They have access to "Wishes"! Once a year or something. Dangit! How is one supposed to walk up to it and kill it?? ( :D )

Anyway, what's good about the Fiend Folio? I would've thought that there are already many monsters in Toril.....is there a need to add more? :o

My bad. It wasn't an army of undead. (That came later I suppose).
It was the Army of Darkness as they called it and consisted mainly of goblins. Thousands of them. Now don't ask me where so many came from, but ok.
And after the city was conquered, all the planar creatures started gating in having Myth Drannor for their private playground.
Btw. you can summon a Pit Fiend in BG2... 7th level clerical spell. Very cool. A vampire killing machine deluxe.
Just don't forget to cast protection from evil on your party before you summon it. ;)

[IMG] Hmmm...just wondering, are there any Tanar'ri and Baatezu in 3rd Edition? Or have they been replaced by generic Type XX demons and the like? The Blood War is still in right?

Also, what is a demesne? And what prevents fiends from gating into Prime Material Worlds like they regularly do in the rest of the Planes?

Yes, tanar'ri and baatezu still exist in 3rd Edition. Just the other day my p&p group faced off against a succubus and incubus duo.

Little stops them from gating in, other than the fact they prefer staying in their more familiar realms. Not to mention when demons/devils come to the Prime, they are only provoking Celestials to come and whoop their ass.

Yeah they both are in, but they made some changes in both tanar'ri and baatezu cases. In fact in 3rd ed. tanar'ri are a lot more powerful. Pretty funny thought there Amon-Ra and more than likely it is true that celestials would kick some major ass (especially Solars).
But from my readings, Celestials generally stay out of Fiends affairs, unless it directly affects the affairs of the prime material. Since finds are so wrapped up in the Blood War that is.

Hmmm I really regret not being able to fight and kill celestial beings in BG2. Damn it would be nice to slice a Deva into pieces like in Planescape Torment with Celestial Fury.

[IMG] Heheh, yes Shura, you're right. It's time to put all those powerful weapons and artifacts to good use. What better way than to fight off several Solar Aasimon with Vorpal severing swords and Celestial Bows, cause fear automatically in evil-aligned ppls and who could Wish you dead or worse once a day (Like "I Wish from this moment on to all eternity Shura is turned into a Law-abiding Nupperibo who has a 1% chance upon his death in that new form to turn into a Lemure!")! :D

Hmmm...so I guess that fiends do not openly invade the Prime Material to avoid conflict with the Upper Planes. Hmmm....that makes sense!

But I hear that some fiends like the Pit Fiend cannot Gate themselves into the Prime Material though, although they can obviously be summoned. Does anybody know why?

(And by the way, do I pass my Wish, or is my Wisdom not high enough? :( )

    Hehe!

No Rakanishu what have you done??!!!
    I'm now a Lemure!!!!
    Ah well. Heh.
But nothing beat the moment when I pummeled that Deva in Planscape with a level 7 spell while Vhailor and Dakkon turned him into mince with their axe and zerth blade. Somehow I got a much greater sense of satisfaction from that then repeatedly kicking baatezu butt.

[IMG] No no, don't worry Shura, I can't cast Wish once per day, only a Solar Aasimon can! :p

Hehe, those Lemures and Nupperibo sure crack me up. Who thought them up anyway? The concept! And LOOK at the pictures! :D

I hear that Trias was a good fight (I was unable to finish the game, as I am a poor guy). Was he?

It is quite regrettable that there were no Barbazu, no Babaus and no Vrocks (just one's bum-feather). No Amnizu to Imprison one under the Styx, and no Chasme to swat.

Still, it's quite good as an introduction. They could've made things much harder, like the Infinite Gate cheese (One Dretch Gating in 1-4, and then each new arrival doing the same), but that would've been frightful I suppose.
