[IMG] I was looking through SK's Creature Browser, and found out that Tolgerias' (the Cowled Wizard who wants you to get Valygar) alignment is Chaotic Good! I thought it was a mistake (just like there are neutral paladins and stuff) and did a Know Alignment spell and he truly is created as a good character.

Which is kind of funny, because I took great pleasure in killing him the previous time I played SoA. I took pleasure in destroying him because he kept on trying to enter into the Planar Sphere, which I consider to be Val's private property.

It's kind of wierd to see two good aligned characters have such passionate hatred for eachother. And I guess arguments can be made for both sides on who is the one worth siding with.

On one hand, Val is worth siding with, b/c the Cowled Wizards are generally a bad organization (even Anomen when he turns LG, says "many a Cowled Wizard is worthy of death" when Edwin sends the crew to kill Rayic Gethras), and the two wizards who Val killed could very well been evil, seeking the Planar Sphere for evil intent. (Though in Val's limited intellect, all magic users have evil intent.)

On the other hand, Tolgerias is worth siding with, b/c he is trying to investigate a magical thing that might have (I don't recall the game saying) killed the folk living in the space where it landed.

As far as I know, biowares npc coding was mega-screwed up, and the alignments are dodgy. There is a mod that fixes this on SP.

Oversight fixes all sorts of screwy stuff such as miscoded alignments and classes.

Why is that bad if Tolgerias is Chaotic Good? He is a fool anyway :D , which explains his deeds (and not his alignment)

Thinking about it, chaotic good makes a kind of sense. After all, he's after someone (Valygar) who has killed a couple of cowled wizards; this someone is the descendant of an insane archmage (Lavok) whose planar sphere has just landed on the city crushing several buildings. So looking at it like that, having Tolgerias as chaotic good makes sense.

The thing that really irked me about Tolgerias and made me take pleasure in killing him was that he wanted you to accept his quest before even telling you what the quest was! Because of that, I was always under the impression that he is a deceitful, evil, self-serving character!

Well he kind of is a self-serving deceitful character. He did want the sphere for himself after all not the Cowled Wizards.

A couple of the Irenicus characters used in cutscenes are coded as one of the good alignments.

Vampiric Viconia is coded as a male (Oversight does not fix this one).

Since players do not see the coded alignments (and classes etc) precisely in the game, it is okay that developers coded weird things. For example in BG1 the Class of Air Aspect (looks like a baby wyvern) is Mage (!), and Alatos "Ravenscar" Thuibuild's abilities are all 3 (3 Str, Dex, etc!).
In BGII, I am sure there are a lot of such things too.
If you browse the game files, encountering such things can be funny

It does matter, though, for weapons such as Equalizer and Daystar. It also make spells like Know Alignment and Detect Evil unreliable.

One of the funnier ones that crops up in mods such as Tutu and BGT is that the devs left portraits attached to many characters in BG1. Doesn't show up in BG1, since portraits are not displayed in the dialogue window, but it's odd in a conversion (using Tutu) when every mage in the game has Edwin's portrait.

You are right. While reading your post, I started to remember things which I have seen in DLTCEP (for those who have not heard about it yet: Dragonlance Total Conversion Editor Pro, an excellent modding tool (created by one of my compatriots by the way :D )). I have noticed portraits for NPCs who cannot join your party. A lot of Edwin portraits... was funny.
