The save file will load into whatever difficulty you have it currently set to, regardless of what it was when you saved it.

[IMG] You can always change the difficulty of the game while you play. Just go to the game options screen and set it to whatever you want.

[IMG] Hmmpf. It´s a question of honour - I always play standard-rules and don´t intend to change that especially when I fail to win a fight. If I would do so, I´d think I´d betrayed me.

My (hard) judgement: For cheating cowards only :D

Oh, and that´s for you Tal :D    ;) :p

I'm with Ragusa on this. If you can't win a battle with the current diddculty then you shouldn't be fighting that battle. Even though one of the reminders from the game is to do that, you are just cheating yourself and no honour in doing that. Go somewhere else, level up a few times and go back to kick a** in that battle.

I always play on core rules and actually tried couple of times raising the difficulty only to forget that I did so some tought battle later and having to reload :)
But I found failing to learn spells so frustrating even with my mage's int 18, that I lower the setting just for that, it's either that or constant reloading on each failure that nearly drived me insane...And for some reason even the potions don't make such a great difference, yes they allow u to learn more spells, but somehow I managed to fail with int of 21, at which a mage I think has 100% chance of learning a spell. So the cheesy tactic of changing difficulty comes in handy afterall.
The toughest battles are usually the ones u r not prepared for. And if the game didn't go your way, I don't think there's anything wrong with reloading, doing a bit of preparation and coming up with some srategies, or at least deciding which weapons, potions, spells will be more useful here. Consider saving before resting and changing the spells just the way u want them, and try different spell combinations. I personally believe in a balance between ranged, mellee weapons and spells. Most things in the game are there for a reason, use them...And even if u r up at 4 am playing BG2 for a second month in a row, remember it's just a game. You are allowed to die and hmmm ...play :)

Oh, please no! I can just smell the next power gamer/role player debates around here somewhere. Please don't start again. I had enough the first time.
