Do we have a "July Surprise" after all?

    [​IMG] A few weeks ago, The New Republic reported that Bush administration officials had been putting pressure on Pakistani officials to produce "high value targets" around the time of the Democratic National Convention. The obvious purpose would presumably be to draw attention away from the expected bump Kerry would get from solidifying his nomination at the convention.
    I thought to myself, "no, there's no way they're THAT stupid. It's too obvious."

    But wouldn't you know it. Surprise!

    This man was captured "a few days back," but the announcement of his capture just had to happen MERE HOURS before John Kerry accepts his nomination for President of the United States. No no, that's not suspicious at all.

    What do you think? Does my administration appear to be screwing with our safety merely to score cheap political points, or is this all just a freakishly convenient coincidence? (I really hope anyone planning on voting for Bush would think long and hard before answering that question.)

    I'm no conspiracy-theory nut, hence my original skepticism. But I think we can all admit that this is just a wee tad too perfectly timed.
