Do you hate '$15 million transfer' e-mails too?

I hate them. I loathe them. I despise them. I was getting them quite often in the past, but then they apparently gave up on me. Now Mr Abasomething Ashasomething. And a Mr Williams. Do they really think I'm stupid enough to give them the details of any bank account and that I believe that I'll get 30% of the cash for this exclusively? Do I look like a moron? Besides, I have nothing to do with men who put 'Mr' before their own name. I don't even reply to them. Sometimes I just send it into oblivion without opening when I see 'Mr something' as the author.

Edit: another example of what I hate: a mail, porn advertisement, claiming to be the reply to a mail I have supposedly sent ('Re: ....' etc). It starts 'with reference to your question'. Just give me the man and porn will become his only way of having at least some fun from there on

This is a very old scam. Before email, these things used to come by fax or snail mail. The people sending these out figure that if they send it to enough people, someone will be gulible enough to fall for it. All they need is a few people to make it worthwhile, and with email being free, it costs them nothing to try.

"If it seems to good to be true, it probably is."

Edit: I just realised I didn't answer the question, so yes, I hate them too.

Actually, I cannot say that I hate them. Sure I do not like them, but at least they provide an interesting twist into the otherwise pretty flat email-spamming-landscape. Hey, at least someone is thinking hard to try to catch my attention.

Oh wait, now I have found the right word to describe them: pathetic.

Some would argue that they filter the true idiots by divesting them of their life savings. Therefore they are performing a service to humanity.

I remember seeing a scam like this on my dad's fax machine in the mid 80s. Even as a child I could smell BS on the letter -- it was the old Nigerian government scam. Of course, some people are naive or foolish or desperate. That's sad when an elderly person losing his savings, not funny.

We get those over our fax machine all the time. The funny thing is that everyone in the office is trained to put them in one persons in-box. It drives him crazy that everyone thinks he is interested in them. :D

That a lot of energy to waste on spam, Chev. You need a better filter so you can channel all that fury into something productive. Dealing with spam takes me all of about 3 seconds, each time I check my hotmail account.

I can't recall the link, but there is this site where people have made fun of these letters by actually replying... the senders actually believe they were in contact witha bodiless head-in-a-jar!

    They SUCK.

I've never received one of those! Even my mother has had one, but not me. I'm beginning to feel left out.

[IMG] I've never got one either. We don't really get e-mails like that, only after my mother signs up for something. Of course... I then get the blame :flaming:

    that's what I hate...
