Does playing CRPGs tell you about yourself?

[IMG] I'm the kind of guy who finishes BG, IWD etc with every character still loaded down with unused items, scrolls and potions.

I look around my house and see piles of junk that might come in handy, magazines I have read and bottles of beverages as yet unconsumed.

Hmmm, time for a Spring clean methinks.

    Now that's an interesting question.

I too have a tendency to hang onto things past their need both in real life and while playing BG as well as a tendency to save things as long as possible without using them if I think they might be of more use later.

I bet there're plenty of similar things that a CRPG would reveal about someone's personality. Do you choose good or evil and with what frequency? Do you allow others to lead? To do you choose companions based on usefulness or personality? Are your priorities to protect yourself and others or destroy others before they destroy you (selection of spells)?

Perhaps we should create a new psychological test disguised as a CRPG.

[IMG] Nice and arranged inventory thank you. Good is too mushy sometimes but nevertheless what I prefer rather than evil.

Personality doesn't keep Kangaxx for killing me, USefullness does. Stay alert and stay protected. You never know what you enemies immunities are unless you have played through it before. Who got a spare reload in real life? Answer.. none

    That should cover it.

CRPGs tell hardly a shred about yourself, I think.

They tell who you'd like to be.

    C'Jakob is right.

I'm always playing true neutrals with all possible variety of skills. I would like to be like that, but I'm not.

I've started BG2 countless times, and still haven't finished. I play till about the fourth chapter, and get bored, and switch to another game. When I'm ready to go back to BG2, I look at my save games and wonder what the hell I was doing, then start over again. It's pretty sad, really.

I rarely get past chapter 3 of BG2 before either deciding there is a huge flaw in my character or I just get bored, then I start again...

EDIT:I have completed the game once however... (though not TOB)

    Lessee...

I have messy inventories, messy containers and all that, and, well, someone said yesterday that my room looks like someone threw a hand granade in there...

Even when playing evil, I usually am polite to people and all that... And I am polite in real life, as well, to people...

I also find myself reclutant to use things.... Cespenar is right when he says I am a pack-rat....

I tend to play CG characters and really dislike playing evil-character. In life I´m quite a likable guy...For my own part, I never hate anybody...

And yes, since i´m quite tidy in both job, (I´m an archivist, therefore I should be tidy), and life, I tend to organize all my stuff in my CRPG´s. One person carries all the healing potions, and carries all the scrolls etc, etc. In the game I never throw anything away, I´d rather journey back to my keep and stack the items I´m pretty sure off they will never be usefull again in the game.
It´s a bit of the archivist in me.....

[IMG] Which kind of reminds me of my old college based PnP group. After graduation we all went our seperate ways.
    * The Paladin is now the guy that eveyone brings their troubles to, the guy everyone trusts.
    * The gnome illusionist (wizard) is in R&D
    * The thief (rogue) is now in marketing!

So, does life imitate game or game imitate life?

I'm playing chaotic good characters and i would say i'm chaotic good. My main Character is usually a f/m but in real life the last time i hit someone with my fist in a real fight was 4 or 5 years ago. But i like Taekwondo, Kungfu and that stuff, so beware ;) .
I can't cast anything in real life. And i think nobody can :D.
In CRPG my main character mostly has low charisma but in reality most people like me, i don't know why. A bit of hypnotizing yes, but thats no magic at all.
    I don't wear RPG clothes.
And I'm an electronician and only Jagged Alliance 2 gave me the opportunity to play a technical woman. Maybe casting is like electronics for me  .

The games tells me indeed a bit about myself. I just cannot play evil for I don't like it... I like to help others like in real life... and I always play as alignment what I am in real life... So the game shows me how I also am in real life... because I play what I am in real life....

Now that I've thought about, CRPGs do tell a bit about myself (when I'm not really roleplaying, that is). I've never played an evil character in BG2 for an extended amount of time.

Then I tried it once and quit after 3 minutes.

I guess I can't stand not being polite.

[IMG] I'm kinda the same way leave a bunch of leftover at the end of games. For example I just went to all the mages I could find and bought all the potions and antidotes that you could buy from everyone of them. I don't even need any of it. Just may like a couple of each. Now in real life I buy stuff use for a day and it's in my closet. I buy stuff I don't need or use.

whenever I see a group of evil-doers I cast an area effect spell like fireball and then rush in with swords and flails flying! I do the same in CRPG's! ;)

seriously, in both crpg's and life, I tend to skim over the details and then work through any problems that arise on 1/2 information and 1/2 intuition. This is because I am more of a "forest" than a "tree" person .... the details bog me down. Also, in both I tend to get to be good friends with the detail folk as they need my perspective and I need their knowledge.
