Really fun game. Didn't really like the Spirit Bar, but it was pretty easily managed and pretty much was the motivator for the story; you sure had an incentive to do all you did.

I like how the plot really revolved around three beings: Myrkul, Akachi and the Founder (and to a point Araman, but I see him as an agent of Myrkul). How it seemed Myrkul caused the Founder to die in an "accident" to test Akachi's faith; Akachi's faith shattered to the point he assaulted the City of Judgement to rip the Founder's soul from the Wall of the Faithless only to be punished horribly by Myrkul; then the Founder spending the intervening centuries trying to find a way to put Akachi to rest to the point of splitting her soul into multiple people so that she would not be found by Myrkul's agents.

I really liked the special powers that came with being a Spirit Eater, and also the special essences you can get. The Shadow of the Void and Spirit of Fire essences made fantastic weapons.

I also used Eternal Rest on Myrkul, but didn't find the special weapon to use his essence on; I assume it was behind the locked doors that Kaji couldn't open in the Dead God's Vault (I saw later in a walkthrough that you can improve Kaji's unlocking skills with certain spells).

I chose to assault the city; it seemed the right thing to do since the gods allowed the Wall to become peverted to the point where a faithful soul could be imprisoned within it (mine!) because of one man's punishment.

I had a lot of fun with the room where the Black Gate was. I used stealth with my Ranger to use One Shot multiple times on the Lich King until he was Near Death and then snuck up to him to use Eternal Rest on him. He never got a spell off!

Over all a very fun game, but not too challenging in the tactics department; I rarely had to fear for anyone's life, and I generally let the AI handle everyone but my character.

I went through the whole thing with Okku, Gann and Safiya (other than the part I had the Dove before I got Okku). I may have to play again and leave Okku behind and take Kaelyn to see how that plays out.

unfortunately, that special weapon doesn't exist :o

i must assume you did a good walkthrough, because if you are evil you get different soul eater abilities and different companions

Right, I didn't go around eating spirits willy nilly; I only ate 'em when I had to :) Well, mostly ;)

i'm doing an evil play through now with a drow warlock, and i can say it's a lot more interesting

for example, i didn't receive eternal rest and spirit healing, but got devour soul and spirit gorge

i've decided to eat okku so now i have an undead companion (must be the most interesting character in the whole game)

I don't think I'd want to go through the game with a high craving (i.e. evil). That Spirit Bar was annoying enough as it is with zero craving. I assume with a maxed craving you almost have to constantly plot how to get your next "fix" :)

Just finished a second run with the second character I took through the OC. I went with Kaelyn instead of Okku, and I have to say her story was pretty good except her denouement was pretty bleak; not very satisfying IMO.

personally i think kaelyn is the most useless NPC in the game
the only time i use her is in dead god's vault (steamrollerland with her mass heal spells)

for a good walk, i took a party of me (sorcerer), safiya, gann, okku
for evil i went with me (warlock), safiya, gann, oneofmany

How many endings does the story have? I just happen to see three different endings.

Here's some of them (i'm not 100% on all conditions though):

Akachi restored (need to have a completed mask):
    1. Evil - if you declare love with safiya*, you both terrorize the planes
    2. Good/NEutral - as above, but you get married in west harbor and meet your old friends

    * if you have OoM in your party and have 100 influence with both, OoM devours safiya before the end out of jealousy

    Mask not restored:
    3. Good/Neutral - if you absorb akachi's essence you can never be free of him anymore and have to stay in CoJ permamently (love interest stays with you)

    4. Evil - if you are evil and have devour soul, you can devour his soul to become a demigod, then go on a crazy revenge spree, killing githyankis and whatnot

Okku - defends his lands from some invasion
Gann - travels with you for a while then slips away and becomes an actor
Safiya - returns back to academy to take founder's place
OoM - stays with you and you both terrorize others
Kaylen - no idea, never used her

€: forgot to mention gann as a romancing option, either way i can see 7 different endings for the PC (#1,2,3 replace safiya with gann)

Kaelyn in my run, which included assaulting the City of Judgement:
She gathers others to her banner to continue the Crusade to tear down the Wall of the Faithless using your assault on the City of Judgement as a symbol for what is possible. She strikes a deal with Rammaq the demilich who betrays her and leads her into a trap where her siblings are killed by demons. She returns to the Triad and her gradfather as a beaten wreck and refuses to speak again for fear of what damage her influence can cause.

    I see...

I play a female character and when it comes to option no.2 by Master Leo, haven't married Gann. Maybe coz I pissed him off during the last conversation with Kelemvor. And Kaelyn had I think three endings.

you are not the only person, from what i've read on official forum it might well be a bug with gann's endings

afaik there are at least 9 endings in total, each stemming from your influence with various players and the story you take. Not forgetting the presence/absence of Okku (Whether you eat him or not) Oneofmany (As above, only you have to deal with the furnace correctly) and Kaelyn, who may turn on you in the end. Plus you have to factor in whether you have romanced anyone or not. Obsidian said in an intervew before release there were "In excess of 9" endings possible.

Just finished a third round through with a newly-created Rogue(28)/Shadowdancer(2) with high DEX and INT for lots of skills including Diplomacy and Bluff which I never had any skill in before. Went the two-weapon fighting route all the way up to the Perfect Two-Weapon Fighting feat, Greater Two-Weapon Defense and Weapon Finesse with short swords. Epic Precision is a must because so many monsters are immune to Sneak Attack; even half damage at these levels is huge :) At the end I had something like 34 DEX including DEX-enhancing items, and a 52 AC with a Tortoise Shell on (using Skin of Shadow found right at the beginning in the barrow which has no limit to the DEX bonus to AC).

Decided not to assault the City of Judgement this time to see how it was different (so obviously I didn't take Kaelyn), and I have to say it's not as good with respect to drops. You get a few different items by killing each of the generals of the Crusade, but nothing else drops anything when you kill them. Assaulting the City gave lots of Spirit Essences. The Deathless Warriors that Rammaq has seem to have a huge amount of HPs compared to the Paladins of Kelemvor. The Generals were pretty easy to kill, though I think this path is more difficult than assaulting the city. Rammaq was pretty resistant to damage except from Okku which I assume is magic damage. Okku mopped up the floor with Rammaq.

It was somewhat satisfying to have come down on the side of both the Founder and Araman.

One thing I didn't get at the end was Kelemvor mentioned the Menagerie would be after me due to the slaying of their sister. Is he referring to Kaelyn? I left her in the Veil and I had a 90+ influence with her (since most of your influence comes in dialog with her, you can get it that high before attacking Okku's army). I don't understand why the Menagerie or anyone else (other than those directly involved in assaulting it) would be after me for defending the city.

Playing as a high DEX and skilled Rogue was quite fun; I was even able to get rid of the Mind Flayer waiting in line at the Sunken City :)
