I was considering making a modified xp table.

Big deal I hear you say?

Well I had considered making the xp double so that you could get higher levels without having to go onto HOF to reach about level 25 or so, but of course that would make the game rather easy if you are double the level you are meant to be.

So I thought perhaps do this and play Insane level and get double xp like old IWD1 used to.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

PS Does anyone remember the 2da file that has the xp info in it?

The 2da file seems to be called "moncrate". At least that's what the modified XP tables are called when you put them in the override table.

I'm not sure that Insane mode would make it that much harder. As far as I know, it only impacts Hit Points and Damage, not Saving Throws, so when your Sorcerer gets powerful spells like Finger of Death etc early, they will clean up. But, it would be interesting to see.

However, I can never seem to get the moncrate numbers to match up to the XP my characters get, mainly because I have no idea how to work out the Challenge Rating of an encounter. It must be possible to have fractions.

I have just finished making it. I have been planning something along those lines for a while now, because Insane difficulty is stupid in Icewind Dale 2. You go the extra step to kill the monsters and don't get the XP. I was going to just keep it for personal use but I sent it off to Tal after reading this. Hope you don't mind.

Sounds great. Tell us about how it plays out. It would be good to be romping around the Hand with over level 20 characters on Insane. That would be truly insane. (Is that why it's called insane?)
