    three sided conflict

    Class restrictions based on stereotypes?
The whole "loose clothing" was kinda missing from NWN though. It had baggy trousers tight round the knees. body-tight leather padding or brown sack robes, nothing in between (e.g. an untucked shirt or something). No more full-body suits. trousers & tops seperatists!
That is because it didn't have cloth physics and clothing needed to bunch at the joints so that the animation system would look right.

I think we can safely say that technology has evolved since then, so we needn't speak of NWN's robes any further.

That said, is it still too early, as in, have you decided upon a system for the gaining/regeneration of mana? Or will that have to wait until further testing has occured? I assume any mana system will have to be tweaked quite a bit before you can give us anything concrete, but what direction have you been leaning towards yourself? More in the daily ration of mana, or slow regeneration, or even fast regeneration?
We have a mana system worked out, but I think the expectation is that it will change significantly as we move forward.

As for where we're leaning vis a vis regeneration, it's more towards the slower side -- I'm not even certain there will actually be anything like a "mana potion".

But it's too early to say for sure. Certainly I like the idea of a mage having to conserve his mana and factor its use into his tactics and not have it regenerate so fast that it feels like you have someone walking about with superpowers firing off lightning bolts at every turn.

What I'm hearing from DG now, is that DA might not have an option I'll be happy with.
That's a risk we're willing to take. Not to be rude, but we're not expecting that DA will be everything for everyone, especially those who come to it with all kinds of preconceived notions (like "mages must be able to melee" or whatever).

Are Hybrid classes planned or Possible for DA?
It depends on what you mean by hybrid. If you mean mixing any two classes, then no. There's lots of customization paths for classes to take, but we have very distinct class roles -- magic, for instance, lies in the hands of the very few in the DA world and having anyone being able to pick up mage levels willy-nilly would rather dilute that.

Does that not sound appetizing? Perhaps not to someone taking the Goldilocks approach to classes, but personally I think it's more important that the classes fit the game and especially the world, first -- this isn't D&D, after all.

    More:
Forgive the over zealous response, but Aargh, good god no! I really, really, hate slow regeneration. Being forced to spend half the game sitting around twiddling my thumbs waiting for that stupid Wizard to regain Mana is not my idea of fun.

It certainly isn't fun to feel like you have someone with super powers walking about firing lightning bolts every turn for five turns, then having to wait for 50 turns before he's able to incinerate some other poor unfortunates.
I'm not suggesting that need be the case. There may be rest areas where you get your mana back... or we may not even have regeneration outside of those areas at all, for precisely the reason you mention.

Mind you, it's a party-based game as well. If a player is going to be so anal as to spend their time resting between every combat just so their mage is at full mana when it's not necessary, we're not going to do backflips just so that they can't inadvertantly bore themselves -- the idea would be not to force a player into that sort of behavior. But that will come out in the testing which way we fall.

    More:
to have mana regenerate only in certain areas isn't really plausible to me. Why regeneration only there?
Because those would be the same areas in which you could rest (ie. a camp, an inn, etc.)
