bioware: design focus for dragon age?

A while ago i made a post here and as part of the reply from a bioware guy it was said that bioware is being developed for an older audience?

It got me curious, what objectives did you want to accomplish for dragon age? What age range did you want to target, how long a single player campaign, mostly linear, open ended or like baldurs gate 2- linear plot but otherwise quite free, etc?

I know you probably can't give much detail but this information is something that isnt really given to the public. Sure you get previews, etc in mags that give some of this information but it is mostly pr talk and isnt very detailed.
Our objectives is to make a great computer role playing game with a epic story, and great graphics.
The age range will be the ESRB rating of either Teen, (13+) or Mature. But that really needs to be worked out between us and the publisher. But we would like to have few limitations on what we use to convay the mood and tone of the game.
The length should be somewhere between 40~50 hours.
The campaign will be similer to BG2, where there is a known overall goal, but the player is free to explore the country.

& I think bioware has enough of a name to not require DnD as a hook.
Should know that after Jade Empire. Oddly it's not in any of the top 10 order lists but KOTORII is 2nd and 5th in two of them. Hopefully that means no one has heard of Jade Empre yet , rather than people not being interested in it.
Jade isn't out for a few month, so I would be surprised if it was different.

    Cutscenes vs. Scripted Sequences
They also increase the workload of the developers by a massive amount as you have to take into account everything the player can do during the sequence that will possibly break it and/or other aspects of the area at large, unfortunately.

I, too, am actually a fan of in-game events. Don't get me wrong. However, being a cinematic designer I can see the far greater value that a cutscene carries on many levels. :)

That's not to say that there will or will not be event sequences in Dragon Age. There might. There might not. Only time will tell, at this point. I can say that there will be cutscenes though.
